I Came, I Drafted, I Buc-ed
My fantasy football team, The Ignorant Sluts, has been drafted, for better or for worse. Not sure what I think of its composition right now -- Chris Johnson: yay!; Jay Cutler: please don't suck; LaDainian Tomlinson: comeback time, baby -- but I have time to figure out how to best use the players I've got. This year's model has a hard act to follow, as last season Adrian Peterson, Ochocinco (does he even need a first name anymore?), Ray Rice and Matt Schaub all wore a virtual Ignorant Sluts jersey. Yes, I got very very lucky, although I like to think I was extremely savvy.
This season, I was prepared -- heck, I was ready -- to draft a Buccaneer. Loyalty to my favorite team and that "you-never-know" factor were my motivation. But Kellen Winslow went to my very good gal pal's team. OK. Check him off the list. Then Cadillac Williams was picked up by auto-draft and sent to another good friend's team. Hmmmmm. What to do, what to do.
With my pick in the last round, I added Mike Williams to the roster. He's my main Buccaneer for the year. I like carrying a rookie or two on my team, as it's fun having a little unknown factor in the mix. Keeps things interesting.
So catch that ball Mike Williams, hold on to it and run run run! The Ignorant Sluts are counting on you.

Thank You, Victor Martinez!
I have to admit, I was getting a little soft in my feelings towards the Red Sox. With the amount of injuries that team has endured, for them to be where they are in the standings is a remarkable acheivement in itself. I'm a sucker for underdog stories and I found myself so impressed with their drive and determination that I almost forgot about the core nastiness at the heart of the relationship between them and the Rays. Youkilis, out. Pedroia, out. Varitek, out. That leaves Mike Lowell and a bunch of guys wearing numbers in the 50s and 60s. Nobody can hate Mike Lowell, can they? I was this close to sending a cookie gram to Diasuke Matsuzaka!
Then along came Victor Martinez, who is like, what, one of six or seven all-star catchers on their roster? Between his posing at the plate like Reggie Jackson after his two home runs Friday night and his A.J. Pierzynski impression Saturday night, I was back to a healthy enough state of mind to cheer loudly when Carlos Pena came in all Ty Cobb-y on Martinez in a play at the plate in the sixth inning of Sunday night's game, even though he was out by a mile.
So thank you, Victor. I needed that.

To Buc Or Not To Buc -- That Is The Question
So my fantasy football draft is quickly approaching. I'm armed with magazines and pundits' suggestions and mock draft data and fellow sports fans' speculation. I think The Ignorant Sluts (my FF team) are ready. There's only one question pending -- do I take a Buccaneer?
My head says "Are you nuts? Why are you even considering this?" My heart says "Aw, go for it. The Bucs are your team. All your friends who are Saints fans draft players from their team." Yes, I know there are so many reasons why that train of thinking is logically wrong. But I'm a loyal girl and I like to support my team. Even with something as innocuous as a fantasy football draft pick.
What to do, what to do.

Big Dog Don't Like The BRaysers
As you probably know by now, Rays manager Joe Maddon (henceforth to be referred to as simply M'Ddon, which is his fashion designer name I just invented) enlisted local designer Julia Alarcon to help come up with the monumentally tacky blue plaid garment known as "The BRayser" to be worn by the team while traveling on their current road trip out west.
Well, not exactly everybody, skip.
