2011 NFL Mock Draft - Tampa Bay Picks 20th In First Round

Mock drafts are funny things. Fans know what their team needs, and we can make an educated guess as to which team will pick which player. If only it were that cut-n-dry.

Trouble starts when teams have glaring needs in several positions. We think we know what our team’s biggest need is, but the front office might have a different opinion.

But even if we correctly guess which position to fill in the first round, it’s not always easy to determine the best player to fill that position.

Just look at the 2010 Buccaneers for example. The rookie wide receiver with the most yards and most touchdowns this year is our very own Mike Williams. Williams was projected to be picked as late as the sixth round last year, and the Bucs grabbed him in the 4th round, after 13 other recievers were taken.

Meanwhile, LeGarrette Blount had the best numbers of all rookie running backs this year, and he did not get drafted at all.

Having said all that, it is fun to look into a crystal ball, and try to figure out where our favorite team will go.

Some draft analysts suggest the Bucs will go with an offensive tackle. Others say the old Buccaroos will go with an outside linebacker in the first round.

Your Tampa Bay Buccaneers need to upgrade the defensive line. We agree with most who say a good first-round defensive end will help shore it up.

Would you target that position first? And if so, then what?
