Rutgers Vs. USF Game Recap: Rutgers Pulls Out Win In Overtime, 20-17

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights were able to surge back from a 10-0 hole to win the game on a San San Te 37-yard field goal in overtime, 20-17.

The Bulls went up 10-0 on a B.J. Daniels touchdown pass and a Maikon Bonani field goal in the first quarter. That score would stand until the third quarter, when Rutgers was able to get on the board with a 33-yard Te field goal to make the score 10-3. The field goal was set up by the Bulls' Victor Marc trying to field a rolling punt and fumbling it away inside the USF 15-yard line.

The Bulls, however, extended their lead to two touchdowns midway through the fourth quarter with a 3-yard touchdown run by Demetris Murray. But the scoreboard would only read 17-3 for a matter of seconds, as Rutgers would score on the ensuing play, a 98-yard kickoff return by Jeremy Deering. The score would stay 17-10 in favor of the Bulls until the 1:08 mark, when Rutgers QB Chas Dodd threw a 34-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Coleman on 2nd and 25 to knot the score. After a punt and a Dodd interception, USF had one more chance to win it in regulation, but Bonani shanked a 27-yard field goal on the final play, and the game moved into overtime.

Rutgers was the only team to score in overtime on the Te field goal. The Scarlet Knights move to 6-3 (3-2) with the win and the Bulls, once a 4-0 team, fall to 4-4 (0-4) and suffer their fourth-straight loss.
