Lightning Trail Flyers 3-1 After Two Periods

Stay connected for news and updates

After tightening up on defense in the first period, the Tampa Bay Lightning did exactly the opposite in the second, which caused their lead to disappear.

First, a Tampa Bay turnover on the blue line led to Wayne Simmonds setting up Danny Briere, who put one in behind Mathieu Garon. Quickly after that, the Lightning turned it over again in the neutral zone, eventually leading to a Jaromir Jagr goal, which gave the Flyers their first lead of the game. Briere and Jagr’s goals came within 34 seconds of each other.

At 14:49, Wayne Simmonds wheeled around and attempted to backhand the puck in the crease. His shot ricocheted off of Brett Clarks foot and went in past Garon, giving the Flyers a 3-1 lead.

Although Garon has given up three goals, he has been the best player for Tampa Bay tonight and has made some huge saves to keep the Lightning in the game.
