Defensive Coach Switched to Other Side of the Ball

If you have one of the best receivers in school history on the coaching staff, it only makes sense that he coaches wide receivers. Sean Beckton had been working with the defensive backs since rejoining the Knights staff since lead recruiter David Kelly was the incumbent wide receivers coach. Kelly’s departure amid the NCAA allegations opened up the position and head coach George O’Leary made the easy choice and moved Beckton into the role.

Beckton last coached the Knights’ receivers from 1996-2003 when he worked with such names as Mike Sims-Walker, Brandon Marshall, Doug Gabriel, Jimmy Fryzel, and Siaha Burley in the wide open passing attack of former head coach Mike Kruczek. Before coaching, Beckton was one of the all-time leading receivers in UCF history as his 196 receptions are third all-time, his 2,493 yards are fourth all-time, and he still holds the school record for catching at least one pass in 42 consecutive games.

Beckton will be more active in recruiting which should help with the wide receiver recruit targets as it is a position of need for UCF that has seen five senior receivers graduate over the past two seasons.
