The Orlando Magic and Dwight Howard have been one of the main focuses in the NBA after the lockout ended, and the future of the Magic's franchise player has become a Source of constant chatter. The Lakers are one of the teams interested in his services and they might even have the pieces to get a trade done. Even though teams can't make deals until Friday, the Lakers have already had conversations with the Magic, although it doesn't seem like they were very productive.
Our pals at Orlando Pinstriped Post think that this shows the Magic is taking a smart approach to this incredibly difficult situation.
It's a strong indicator that Orlando, under President of Basketball Operations Otis Smith, intends to take a patient approach with regard to the future of its franchise cornerstone; until Howard makes clear his intentions--stay with Orlando long term, continue his career with another team, or stay with the Magic this season and test free agency in 2012--trading him would make no sense.
