The Tampa Bay Lightning made it two-in-a-row on Friday night, going on the road in the Western Conference and defeating the Dallas Stars 2-1. Teddy Purcell was largely responsible for carrying over the momentum from their big win over Boston and delivering the victory. Purcell gave the Bolts a 1-0 lead with a little over a minute remaining in the first. That lead would hold until the third period, as Mathieu Garon came up big in net for Tampa, stopping 27 of 28 Dallas shots on goal.
The Stars finally evened it up at the beginning of the third, when Tom Wandell beat Garon to make it 1-1. But Purcell would quickly respond, giving Tampa the one goal lead right back just two minutes later. From there, Garon, who has struggled mightily of late, would slam the door over the final fifteen minutes. While the Stars may be reeling after a hot first month of the season, it was still a nice road win for the Lightning. Tampa looks to make it a winning streak on Saturday as they continue their trip out West with a matchup against the Phoenix Coyotes.
