The firing of manager Ozzie Guillen after one season has sparked introspection throughout the Miami Marlins organization. President of baseball operations Larry Beinfest suggested on Tuesday that the Marlins had lost their way, and that they might need to rediscover it before becoming a winning franchise again.

"In the old days," Beinfest told the Florida Sun-Sentinel, "when we were winning world championships, we talked about pitching, speed and defense and maximizing our production per dollar because of the challenges we had on the revenue side. And all those different things that kind of made us the Marlins."

Florida finished the 2012 season with 93 losses. It was their second-straight 90-plus loss season, something that happened for only the second time in franchise history.

"Maybe the game has changed a little bit," Beinfest said. "We need to think about how we make roster decisions, how we make personnel decisions, how we come to those decisions and maybe that will all help cultivate a new Marlins Way."
