The Florida St. Seminoles easily took care of the Duke Blue Devils on Saturday, winning 48-7. The Blue Devils are bowl eligible for the first time since 1994, but they're still a long way from being able to compete with the best teams in the ACC. Florida State is simply on a different level athletically than Duke, and the proof was on the field on Saturday night. SB Nation's Florida State blog, Tomahawk Nation, broke down just how far apart the two teams are, statistically.
Breaking down how much better the Seminoles were, on a yards-per-play basis:
Through three quarters, Florida State held a 45-7 lead and had run off 458 yards on 47 plays (9.7/play), while holding Duke to just 202 on 61 plays (3.3/play). Florida State's EJ Manuel was far from sharp. But when he connected, he connected big. As in 282 yards on only 16 passes (8 completed), an incredible 17.6 yards-per-attempt and 35 per completion.
On why leaving quarterback E.J. Manuel in the game late into the fourth quarter was a poor decision:
Coach Jimbo Fisher was trying to prove a point to his offense about finishing drives and games, after the FSU attack fumbled three times in the quarter, and FSU did run only 47 plays through three quarters (a low number for three quarters), but his move exposed Manuel to unnecessary hit after unnecessary hit as the game was well in hand.
The Seminoles next play on Nov. 8th, when they travel to Blacksburg to take on Virginia Tech in a potentially dangerous Thursday night matchup. After that, they travel to Maryland before ending the year at home against the Florida Gators.

The No. 12 Florida State Seminoles continue their dominance over the bowl-eligible Duke Blue Devils on the afternoon, expanding their lead to 38 after three quarters at Tallahassee's Doak Campbell Stadium.
At the half, Florida State had a 31-7 lead over Duke, combining a strong defensive performance with a powerful and consistent rushing attack. This trend continued during the third quarter, with the Blue Devils failing to score altogether while Florida State scored two touchdowns. The first touchdown was 14-yard Devonta Freeman rush for a touchdown, and the second was a 35-yard pass from EJ Manuel to Kelvin Bejamin for a touchdown.
Freeman has 104 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries on the afternoon. He leads the Seminole rushing attack, which has totaled 204 yards and three touchdowns.
Duke has gained only 202 yards through three quarters, with most of those coming from the Duke passing attack.

At the end of the first half, the No. 12 Florida State Seminoles lead the Duke Blue Devils 31-7 in Tallahassee.
After establishing a 17-point lead by the end of the first quarter, Florida State tacked on two touchdowns to extend the lead to 31. The first score came on a James Wilder Jr. 1-yard rush to cap a three-play, 60-yard drive. The second was on a 9-yard touchdown rush by Devonta Freeman.
Wilder, Freeman, and Lonnie Pryor have been effective runners for Florida State so far, combining for 102 yards on 16 carries. Each is averaging more than 5 yards per rush thus far.
Duke's Jela Duncan scored on a 3-yard rush to finish an impressive 90-yard touchdown drive by the Blue Devils, but those would be the only points the team would score in the half.
Florida State will receive the ball to begin the second half.

In a battle of two bowl eligible teams with ACC title ambitions, the No. 12 Florida State Seminoles lead the Duke Blue Devils, 17-0, after one quarter.
Florida State's first score was on an 71 yard EJ Manuel touchdown pass to Rashad Greene. Manuel just completed one other of his six pass attempts in the first quarter, for 96 total passing yards.
The Seminoles' next score would come from a 75 yard touchdown return by Tyler Hunter of a Will Monday punt. One drive later, Dustin Hopkins would make a 26 yard field goal for the 'Noles, expanding the Florida State lead to 17.
The Blue Devils, on the other hand, have had some trouble moving the ball with their offense, gaining just 65 total yards during the first quarter. The Blue Devils will have the ball at the beginning of the second quarter, on the Blue Devils' 32 at third-and-six.
