US PRESSWIRE
The UCF Knights lost their first conference game on Saturday, putting the team in a tie with East Carolina for the division lead in the conference.
With just one more week (and game) remaining for teams in Conference USA before regular season play comes to an end, the Central Florida Knights remain in control of their faith to the conference title game against the winner of the West division.
The Knights started out 6-0 in conference play, but fell to Conference USA's top team in the West division, Tulsa, on Saturday by the score of 23-21, giving UCF its first loss in conference play. Due to the loss, UCF is now 6-1 in conference play and tied with the East Carolina Pirates for the East division lead.
While both teams have one more game remaining, East Carolina will play on Friday and UCF will play on Saturday, meaning there is a possibility UCF could win the division before playing their game on Saturday. If East Carolina losses to Marshall, UCF will win the division regardless of whether or not they beat UAB on Saturday.
If both teams win their respective conference game, UCF will be the conference winner, because the Knights own the tiebreaker after defeating East Carolina in the teams' only head-to-head game.
