Florida International takes on first-year FBS program South Alabama in search of its first conference win of 2012.

The Florida International Panthers play for their first Sun Belt Conference win of the year as they travel to play the South Alabama Jaguars in Mobile, Ala. on Saturday.

After a school-best season in 2011, Florida International has struggled to a 1-8 record in its 2012 campaign and is 0-5 in Sun Belt play. Its most recent loss was a 14-6 defeat to the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers, a game the Panthers lost despite outgaining their opponent. Sophomore quarterback Jake Medlock leads the Panthers' offense, completing 59% of his passes while throwing nine touchdowns to two interceptions in seven games.

Kedrick Rhodes and Darian Mallary key FIU's run game, which averages 140 yards per game, while the Panther defense surrenders 35 points per game.

South Alabama is 2-6 in its provisional and inaugural season as an FBS team and Sun Belt member. Its first-ever Sun Belt win came on Oct. 20 as the Jaguars beat Florida Atlantic in double overtime. Quarterback Ross Metheny has averaged 211 passing yards with a 55% completion rate over his last three games. Sophomore Demetre Baker is the Jaguars' feature running back. Averaging five yards per carry, Baker rushed for a season-high 115 yards last week in a 38-24 loss to Louisiana-Monroe.

The meeting is the first-ever between the two schools.
