College basketball scores: FGCU tops FIU 76-73

The Florida Gulf Coast Eagles defeated the Florida International Golden Panthers on Thursday, 76-73 thanks to 18 points by both Chase Fieler and Christophe Varidel.

The Florida Gulf Coast Eagles won their seventh game of the season and stayed undefeated at home by defeating the Fla. International Golden Panthers, 76-73. Forward Chase Fieler scored 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting to lead the Eagles starters.

Coming off the bench was reserve guard Christophe Varidel who also scored 18 points, thanks in large part to four three-pointers, the only three point shots made by the Eagles in this game.

As for the Golden Panthers, guard Gaby Belardo led the way with 17 points on 6-of-12 shooting with a trio of three pointers. Forward Tymell Murphy added 15 points and guard Malik Smith added 14. Smith shot 4-of-15 on the night, going 4-of-11 from three point range. Reserve forward Jerome Frink added 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in the loss.

The Eagles next play against the Southeastern Fires on Tuesday at Alico Arena in Fort Myers, Fla. Tip off for that game is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. The Golden Panthers next play on Wednesday against the Louisville Cardinals at the KFC Yum! Center.
