The Hurricanes are off to a fast start, while UCF found a new star in freshman Matt Williams.
It was a busy basketball Saturday in the Sunshine State, highlighted by the Miami Hurricanes staying on their early season roll.
Miami improved to 5-1 with a 75-62 win over UMass, pushing past a second-half rally by the Minutemen thanks to 19 points and 13 rebounds from Reggie Johnson. The Hurricanes' center is now averaging a double-double -- 12.8 points and 10.8 rebounds per game.
UCF (4-2) beat Florida Tech, where freshman Matt Williams, who was making his college debut after missing the first five games of the season with illness, scored 21 points on 7-of-9 shooting from beyond the arc.
Florida A&M beat Bethune-Cookman in a sweet 75-67 win over their archrival in the Rattlers' Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference opener.
The best team in the state, No. 7 Florida (6-0), has a few days off until it plays Florida State on Dec. 5, then takes on No. 9 Arizona in a huge road showdown ten days later.
