The Birthsong Project: Volume 2

Six birthdays this week in Florida pro sports. What was the number one song the week your favorite players were born? Oldest first -

Juwan Howard – PF – Miami Heat – February 7, 1973 – Crocodile Rock – Elton John
While the other kids were rocking ’round the clock, Juwan was ignoring it. The ageless wonder is in his 18th NBA season.

Jameer Nelson – PG – Orlando Magic – February 9, 1982 – Centerfold – J. Geils Band
His memory may have been sold, but Nelson is unconscious from beyond the arc when he gets hot.

Burke Badenhop – P – Tampa Bay Rays – February 8, 1983 – Africa – Toto
I don’t know about 100 men from Mars, but Badenhop can handle nine men on the diamond.

Sean Bergenheim – F – Florida Panthers – February 8, 1984 – Karma Chameleon – Culture Club
This chameleon has been hiding in plain sight. Once a year at playoff time he becomes quite the clutch goal scorer.

Matt Bush – P – Tampa Bay Rays – February 8, 1986 – That’s What Friends Are For – Dionne and Friends
Yet to appear in a Major League game, Bush’s true friends will be rewarded with their patience if he can stick with the Rays out of spring training.

Steven Stamkos – F – Tampa Bay Lightning – February 7, 1990 – How Am I Supposed To Live Without You – Michael Bolton
Stamkos leads the NHL with 35 goals and he looks like Spicoli from "Fast Times at Ridgemont High," two good reasons why Bolts fans don’t want to live without him.

Check back next week for installment three.
