Kickin' sand around the pit
Lexi Thompson, a local 16-year-old golf prodigy, is set to start her first LPGA season Thursday, as she will compete in the Women's Australian Open this upcoming weekend. Thompson, who's soon to be 17-years-old has already claimed two professional victories, says she's ready to go.
"I'm ready to play," said the 16-year old Thompson to Jeff Shain of the Orlando Sentinel.
Thompson, who turned pro at the age of 15, and already claimed a 10th place tie at the 2009 U.S. Women's Open, and last year become the youngest winner on the LPGA and Women's European Tour.
This year she's looking to take he game to the next level.
"We couldn't be more excited for her," said her father Scott Thompson to the Sentinel, "but I think there's more ahead. She's still growing and learning this game. I think it's going to get more exciting."
