The top men were in action Saturday at the Sony Ericsson Open, and the seeding form largely held as top seed Novak Djokovic, No. 3 seed Roger Federer, and top-seeded American Mardy Fish all won their matches in straight sets.
Federer set up a third-round match with Andy Roddick on Monday after the Swiss champion defeated American Ryan Harrison 6-2, 7-6 (3). For his part, Roddick progressed by defeating Gilles Muller 6-3, 6-2, while Djokovic defeated Marcos Baghdatis 6-4, 6-4. Fish swept aside Canada's Frank Dancevic 6-3, 7-6 (1).
The only seeded men's player to go out of the tournament Saturday was No. 15 seed Feliciano Lopez, who fell to fellow Spaniard Albert Ramos 6-4, 7-6 (5).
On the women's side, Maria Sharapova, Caroline Wozniacki, Li Na, and Serena Williams all progressed into the third round with straight set wins. No. 6 seed Samantha Stosur was taken to three sets by South Africa's Chanelle Scheepers, but held her nerve to win 2-6, 7-5, 6-2. Meanwhile, in a battle of Belgians, No. 23 seed Yanina Wickmayer defeated former major champion Kim Clijsters 6-4, 7-6 (5).
