Lighting Vs. Bruins Recap: Boston Scores Three Unanswered Goals In Third Period For 5-2 Win

The Tampa Bay Lightning had a chance to play spoiler on Tuesday night, hanging tough with the Boston Bruins who were looking to stay on top of the Northeast Division. But the Bruins took over in the final period to run away with a 5-2 win. Boston out-shot the Bolts by 20, but Dwayne Roloson had largely limited the damage through the first 40 minutes and kept the deficit to just one goal.

Trailing 2-1, Tampa evened it up on yet another spectacular play by leading goal-score Steven Stamkos. It was his second goal of the game, a power play snipe set up off a pass by Victor Hedman. But Boston would reel off three unanswered goals over the final 10 minutes to clinch the three-goal victory. Youngsters Benoit Pouliot and Brad Marchand did the damage before Rich Peverly added an empty-netter in the final minute.

Tampa stays out on the road and will face the New Jersey Devils on Thursday before returning home this weekend for their final homestand of the season.

Lightning Vs. Bruins Score Update: Boston Dominates But Adds Only One Goal, Leads 2-1 At Second Intermission

The Tampa Bay Lightning trail the Boston Bruins 2-1 after two periods at TD Garden. The Bruins dominated the second period but managed only one goal against the Bolts, a Dennis Seidenberg shot with five minutes remaining. The goal occurred during four-on-four play and Seidenberg slipped in from the bad angle and fired a quick wrist shot from Dwayne Roloson's left side for the 2-1 lead.

Boston has out-shot the Lightning 23-8 so far but Tampa is still in it thanks to Roloson and the Bruins' inability to convert. For Tampa, it was Steven Stamkos who scored his 54th goal of the year to open the scoring just five minutes into the first period. But the Bruins, who are still playing for the Northeast Division title, responded with Shawn Thornton's fifth goal of the season to even it up.
