Panthers Vs. Red Wings Score: Florida Falls In Shootout, 2-1

The Florida Panthers came up just short of picking up a crucial road victory, but still salvaged a point out of a 2-1 shootout loss at the hands of the Detroit Red Wings.

Florida opened the scoring late in the first period when Tomas Fleischmann scored his 26th goal of the season at the 17:38 mark of the opening period.

After a scoreless second period, Detroit would tie the game when Jiri Hudler scored his 25th goal of the season at 5:30. Shortly after, Detroit's Kyle Quincy received a 10 minute misconduct penalty for elbowing but the Panthers could not convert.

After a scoreless overtime, the two teams headed to a shootout where Pavel Datsyuk of Detroit and Wojtek Wolski of Florida exchanged goals before Hudler broke the deadlock. Jimmy Howard would then stop the last two Panthers shooters to clinch the victory.

Despite the loss, the Panthers still gained a point and remain three points ahead of the Washington Capitals. The will return to action on Tuesday when they return home to play the Winnipeg Jets.
