Miami Dolphins Move Week 2 Game Against Oakland Raiders

Stay connected for news and updates

When the NFL schedule was released on Tuesday, the Miami Dolphins' Week 2 home game against the Oakland Raiders was penciled in for a 4:15 p.m. ET start time to be nice to the Raiders' fans on the opposite coast. Because the NFL schedule is made with a very wide variety of concerns that need to be accounted for, someone failed to account for an important Jewish holiday.

Rosh Hashana starts at sundown on the evening of that Week 2 game, and patrons would struggle to get home from the game before the sun went down. Out of concern for their Jewish fans, the Dolphins and the NFL have moved the game, and it's now a 1 p.m. kickoff. The NFL isn't a huge fan of midday outdoor games in September in Florida, but accounting for the needs of Jewish Dolphins fans who wanted to attend the game was a much bigger concern.
