NBA Playoffs 2012, Heat Vs. Knicks Reaction: Dwyane Wade On Heat-Knicks Rivalry

The Miami Heat eliminated the New York Knicks in fairly easy fashion in their first round Playoff series, which is somewhat of a departure from what people expected heading into the series. But then again, once the two teams took the court, it didn't really seem like a different outcome was really possible. Our Heat blog Peninsula is Mightier has some reaction to the series from Dwyane Wade.

"Obviously this is a rivalry. A lot of us know a lot of them on that team. I think this series was played a little different than probably two teams that really don't know each other. There's a lot of pride that takes place in this kind of series. Even though it was a 5-game series, it was a very tough series to win it. Obviously, Game 1 was probably the easiest one where we were able to win it by 30 but the other ones were tough games. I thought it helped us to be able to go against a team like this. I said that in the beginning, I said this was going to help us come into the playoffs and be ready and not overlook anyone and we couldn't overlook this team."

It's pretty generous of Wade to call this a rivalry after the way the Heat just dispatched them. I think he is being pretty kind to the Knicks here, which is smart, because you never know if you will face that team again next year. Onto the Pacers.

Heat Vs. Knicks, 2012 NBA Playoffs Game 5: Miami Advances With 106-94 Win

The Miami Heat are headed to the second round of the 2012 NBA Playoffs, are cleaning up in Game 5 to finish off the New York Knicks 4-1 in their opening round series. The Heat pulled away in the second half to cruise to a double-digit victory, 106-94. The Knicks had no answers for Miami on the defensive end, with the Heat shooting 44 percent from the floor and the Big 3 all putting in significant work on offense.

LeBron James led Miami with 29 points, but the likely MVP had a complete floor game an added eight rebounds and seven assists to eliminate the Knicks. Dwyane Wade had an array of highlights throughout the evening, twisting through traffic and pulling off multiple circus shots. Both he and Chris Bosh finished with 19 points for Erik Spoelstra, who's looking to follow up on last year's Finals appearance with an NBA title.

The Knicks ended their NBA record postseason losing streak in Game 4, but the series was still well in hand for the Heat. Carmelo Anthony added 35 points in Game 5 but New York couldn't stop Miami yet again.

Miami moves on to face the No. 3 seed Indiana Pacers with Game 1 set for Sunday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. ET.

Heat Vs. Knicks, 2012 NBA Playoffs Game 5: Miami Leads By 11 At Half

The Miami Heat are looking to close out the New York Knicks on Wednesday night after failing to complete the sweep at Madison Square Garden in Game 4. Miami pushed their lead to double digits in the first half, taking a 55-44 lead into the locker room at AmericanAirlines Arena.

Miami came out firing, shooting better than 45 percent from the floor and 50 percent from behind the arc. As you'd expect, LeBron James and Dwyane Wade lead the way with double figures, but Mike Miller came off the bench and hit three quick three-pointers to provide a big boost. James, as he has all series, did most of his damage at the free-throw line, hitting seven of eight from the charity stripe to finish with a team-high 13 points. LeBron also added six assists while Wade finished with 12 points.

Carmelo Anthony leads all scorers with 15 points, and the Knicks haven't had too much trouble scoring but they simply can't get any stops on the other end. Miami will look to keep up the offensive pace and finish off the series over the final 24 minutes.

Heat Vs. Knicks, 2012 NBA Playoffs Game 5 Preview: Miami Looks To Close Out New York At Home

After failing to close out the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden on Sunday, the Miami Heat return to American Airlines Arena on Wednesday night to try and close out their Eastern Conference Quarterfinal against the Knicks.

The Heat have been pouring over Sunday's film to find out just what went wrong in their 89-87 loss to New York. The loss included 11 missed free throws, 16 missed three-pointers, a pair of blown double-digit leads and a 19-2 run at the end of the third quarter.

There has never been a team in NBA history that has ever come back from a 3-0 series deficit and Miami does not want to be the first. Part of that will be putting pressure on Mike Bibby, who will most likely start at point guard for the Knicks. Bibby hit a key three-pointer to give the Knicks the lead with 1:23 left in the fourth quarter. The Heat will also have to contend with Amare Stoudemire, who played effectively despite lacerations to his hand that he suffered after Game 2 in Miami.

The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start with a national broadcast on TNT.

Jeremy Lin Injury: Knicks' Guard Won't Play In NBA Playoffs Series Vs. Miami Heat

Rumors had been swirling that New York Knicks point guard Jeremy Lin could be available to play in the first round playoff series against the Miami Heat. Unfortunately, it looks as those those rumors have all been shot down. New York interim head coach Mike Woodson has confirmed that Lin has not fully recovered from his torn meniscus and will not be available for this series.

Lin suffered his knee injury on March 24 against the Detroit Pistons. He missed the rest of the regular season after that.

2012 NBA Playoffs, Knicks Vs. Heat Reaction: Why Was Shane Battier Guarding Carmelo Anthony In Game 4?

The Miami Heat were in the game until the very end, but Carmelo Anthony caught fire late in the fourth quarter and helped keep the New York Knicks' season alive. When it was all said and done, 'Melo put up 41 points, most of them with Shane Battier playing defense on him. Our Heat blog Peninsula is Mightier isn't the only one questioning that decision.

A lot of people will question why Erik Spoelstra kept Shane Battier on Anthony the whole way through. I even said it. But Battier defended Anthony well on those late jump shots. Nonetheless, James is the best perimeter defender in the league and should have guarded

To be fair, Battier is a pretty good defender in his own right, but as PIM points out, LeBron James is the best perimeter defender in the entire NBA. I can understand if Erik Spoelstra wanted LeBron to save his energy for the offensive end, but at some point you have to stop their best player. We'll see if Spoelstra changes his game plan for Game 5.

2012 NBA Playoffs, Heat Vs. Knicks Game 4: New York Survives Elimination With 89-87 Win

The New York Knicks were able to scratch out a 89-87 win at Madison Square Garden Sunday afternoon, allowing their series with the Miami Heat to go on for another game.

Clutch shooting down the stretch and an incredible 41-point performance from Carmelo Anthony brought the Knicks from the brink to move on.

Amare Stoudemire but in a very inspired performance, overcoming his injury to put up 20 points while shooting 8-of-13 from the field.

While the Knicks were able to take the lead with a 26-17 advantage in the third quarter, the Heat would not go quietly, as evident by the play of LeBron James who hit a ridiculous amount of shots down the stretch.

James finished the game with a team-high 27 points. Dwyane Wade chimed in with 22 points and six assists and Chris Bosh rounded out the Big Three's efforts with 17 points and nine rebounds.

The Knicks left a window of opportunity for the Heat to tie at the end of regulation, but Wade's buzzer-beater did not fall.

Game 5 is scheduled for Tuesday, May 9.

2012 NBA Playoffs Heat Vs. Knicks: Baron Davis Injured

Things have gone from bad to worse for the New York Knicks, as Baron Davis has blown out his knee on a drive to the hoop.

The luck for the Knicks in the playoffs has been horrendous, and this may be the icing on the cake. He was taken back to the locker room for further evaluation, although all signs point to an ACL injury.

The injury even shook some of the Heat players on the sidelines.

NBA Playoffs 2012, Heat Vs. Knicks Game 4 Score Update: Miami Leads 44-38 At The Half

The Miami Heat look to be in a position to complete a first-round sweep of the New York Knicks, as MIami holds a 44-38 lead at the half.

Knicks forward Amare Stoudemire surprised many by wrapping up his injured hand and playing today. He has been a spark, scoring six points in 10 minutes including this nice hoop and foul play.

Both teams have struggled to shoot the ball, especially from behind the arc, with the Heat shooting 0-for-9 from deep and just 38.5 percent from the field while the Knicks haven't fared much better, shooting 0-for-8 from three and just 38.2 percent from the floor.

Carmelo Anthony has carried the Knicks, scoring 18 points, but no other Knick has managed to score more than six. For the Heat, LeBron James has a team-high 15 points while Chris Bosh has been dominant down low with 12 points of his own. Dwyane Wade has nine points.

2012 NBA Playoffs, Heat Vs. Knicks Injury Update: Amare Stoudemire Could Be Available For Game 4

The New York Knicks sorely missed forward Amare Stoudemire in Game 3 on Thursday night after he lacerated his hand punching a fire extinguisher case. The Knicks are desperate to get some help, and Stoudemire could be available for the Knicks in Game 4 on Sunday according to Knicks head coach Mike Woodson.

If Stoudemire is able to play in Game 4, he'll need to be more effective after averaging 13.5 points per game in Games 1 and 2.

2012 NBA Playoffs, Knicks Vs. Heat: Reaction To Miami's Game 3 Win

The Miami Heat walked into Madison Square Garden on Thursday night and took a commanding 3-0 lead in their series against the Knicks by wiping them off the floor in the second half. The plucky Knicks came out with a great deal of energy in the first half, but as our Heat blog Peninsula is Mightier points out, the Heat were just too much.

It was a game of runs early, with the Knicks starting the game on a 19-10 run early but found themselves up just 4 at halftime. LeBron would get into foul trouble in the 3rd quarter but Dwyane Wade sparked a run, hitting 3 straight shots and giving Miami a 5 point lead. The Heat would never look back and expanded on the lead to start the 4th quarter off a pair of back to back 3-pointers from LeBron James.

Now the Heat are up 3-0 in their first round series, and they are just one win away from closing out the Knicks. They can take care of that over the weekend and return home to Miami without having to play at their house again.

Knicks Vs. Heat, 2012 NBA Playoffs Game 3: Miami Takes 3-0 Series Lead With Convincing Win In New York

The Miami Heat took a commanding 3-0 series lead on Thursday night with a convincing 87-70 win at Madison Square Garden. While it was ugly and sloppy on the offensive end at times, the Heat's defense completely stifled the Knicks and quickly turned a raucous crowd quiet. Miami held New York to just 31 percent from the field, and gave up nothing easy in the second half to clinch the win.

LeBron James led all scorers with 32 points, once again doing a lot of his damage from the free-throw line where he hit 12 of 13 attempts. James was frustrated early and committed eight turnovers, but he eventually turned it on as the Heat pulled away at the end of the third quarter and extended their lead down the stretch. Miami got an unexpected big game from point guard Mario Chalmers, who had a little dust-up early with Baron Davis, but finished the game with 19 points and hit five big three-pointers.

The Heat now head to Game 4 on Sunday afternoon looking for a sweep and with a great opportunity to get extended rest before the second round.

Knicks Vs. Heat, 2012 NBA Playoffs Game 3: Miami Cold In 1st Half, Trails By 4

To this point, Miami's offense carried the Heat to a commanding 2-0 series lead but the scoring disappeared in the first half of Game 3 at Madison Square Garden on Thursday night. The Heat shot just 36 percent from the floor in the first 24 minutes, and they trail the New York Knicks 40-36 at half. LeBron James was the only Miami player in double figures in the first half, hitting eight of nine attempts from the free-throw line to finish with 12 points. James, however, committed four first half turnovers as the Knicks ratcheted up the defense. The Heat had two field goal droughts of 12 minutes and four minutes.

On offense, however, the Knicks haven't fared much better than Miami. New York is shooting 39 percent from the floor. Unexpectedly, Landry Fields is their leading scorer as the the second-year wing from Stanford was perfect from the field and at the line. Miami will need to improve the offensive efficiency in the second half if they want to take a 3-0 series lead.

2012 NBA Playoffs, Heat Vs. Knicks: Chris Bosh Will Be Available For Game 3, According To Report

Chris Bosh was in Miami last night to be with his wife during the birth of the couple's first child while the rest of his team was in New York preparing to take on the Knicks in Game 3 of their first round Playoff series. There was some speculation that Bosh might not be able to make it back to Gotham in time for this game, but it looks like he will be available after all.

There could always be some issues getting him up the East Coast and to the arena, but it seems like the Heat will be doing their best to get him into the lineup.

2012 NBA Playoffs, Heat Vs. Knicks: Chris Bosh Could Miss Game 3 With Birth Of Child

The Miami Heat have a pretty good chance to take complete control of their series against the New York Knicks on Thursday night, especially considering that Amare Stoudemire will be out of the lineup. But the one member of the Heat who might be able to benefit most from his absence might be missing the game as well. According to SB Nation, Chris Bosh might miss the game as well as he prepares to be present for the birth of his child.

Chris Bosh's wife is reportedly about to give birth to the couple's first child -- Bosh has a daughter from a previous relationship -- in Miami. Bosh had been in New York with the Heat, preparing for Thursday's Game 3. There's a strong chance Bosh doesn't return in time for that game. Since this is Chris Bosh, the NBA Macho Set's designated whipping boy, you can already hear the reaction.

Bosh is certainly not the most important person in the Heat lineup, and without Amare Stoudemire in the lineup, Bosh's presence wasn't completely necessary. But I'm sure the Heat would have preferred to have a full lineup in a game where they can effectively shut the Knicks down.

2012 NBA Playoffs, Heat Vs. Knicks Preview: How Badly Will Amare Stoudemire Get Booed In New York?

The Miami Heat were never really threatened in the first two games against the Knicks in Miami, but the venue shifts to New York on Thursday night, where the Knickerbockers are a totally different team. The game starts at 7 pm and can be found on TNT.

The big story from this game will actually be someone who isn't even going to lace them up and play. Amare Stoudemire punched a now infamous fire extinguisher case and ripped his hand apart. He'll miss this incredibly important Game 3 as his hand heals. Knicks fans, who were already displeased with Stoudemire's performance relative to the size of his contract, probably aren't thrilled about this whole situation. If Amare is sitting court side in a suit, and one has to assume that he probably won't be for this very reason, the fans will probably let him hear it pretty good.

Heat Vs. Knicks, 2012 NBA Playoffs Game 2: Miami Too Much For New York In 10-Point Win

The Miami Heat took a 2-0 lead in their first round series with the New York Knicks on Monday night with 104-94 win. Unlike Game 1, the Knicks put up a fight on the offensive end of the floor, as Carmelo Anthony did his best in the first half to challenge the Big 3 on the offensive end. But Miami simply had too much firepower, with Dwyane Wade taking the Game 1 baton from LeBron James to lead Miami with 25 points. Wade had 19 in the first half alone, winding his way through traffic and hitting is typically dazzling array of shots.

LeBron facilitated the offense, which was largely run through Wade. The likely MVP finished with nine assists, but also added 19 points in support. The third member of the trio, Chris Bosh, was very efficient on the inside and along the wing, hitting 7 of 12 attempts from the floor and finishing with 21 points. As a team, the Heat had six players in double figures as they continued to push the Knicks, who were with a less than 100 percent Tyson Chandler as he continues to battle illness.

Miami was relatively unchallenged in the first two games, but the series now moves to a raucous and rowdy Madison Square Garden for Game 3 on Thursday.

NBA Playoffs 2012, Heat Vs. Knicks Game 2: Miami Leads 53-47 After First Half

The Miami Heat lead the New York Knicks by six after one half of Game 2 at American Airlines Arena. The Knicks played much tougher on the offensive end, paced by Carmelo Anthony who went off early in the first quarter. Anthony had 15 points in the first 12 minutes alone, finishing the half with a game-high 21.

But it's still not enough to match Miami, who's scoring with ease on the other end to match every tough bucket that Carmelo has to work for against their defense. While LeBron James exploded in the first half of Game 1, it was Dwyane Wade who took the reins in Game 2, scoring 19 points and clearly taking control on offense right from the start. Both James and Chris Bosh supported Wade with 11 points each, overmatching New York on the other end. Miami is shooting almost 57 percent from the floor.

Despite Anthony's best efforts, Miami just needs to continue their attack on he other end, moving the ball and getting easy buckets.

VIDEO: Reggie Miller Loves LeBron James

The Miami Heat lead the New York Knicks by a score of 27-24 at the end of the first quarter. They are coming off a monumental dismantling of the Knicks in Game 1 on Saturday. In that game, LeBron James - perhaps you've heard of him - led all scorers with 32 points.

Reggie Miller took the opportunity during Monday's Game 2 broadcast to profess his feelings about Mr. James.

Miller called him "the best and most physically gifted player" in the game, in a lengthy sidetrack on LBJ's prowess compared to the game's other greats.

In animated GIF happenings, Chris Bosch had this dunk that was not exactly a dunk, at least not in the same aesthetic sense of a dunk. It rolled around and around and around the rim while Bosch and Amare Stoudemire watched. Finally, it fell through the basket.

Heat Vs. Knicks, 2012 NBA Playoffs Game 1: Miami Crushes New York With Incredible Defensive Effort

The Miami Heat cruised to an easy 100-67 win over the New York Knicks in Game 1 of their first round series. LeBron James took over and the Heat blew it open in the second quarter and never looked back. After 23 first-half points, James finished with a game-high 32 points on 10 of 14 from the floor. His performance in the second quarter was MVP caliber. Dwyane Wade added 18 points but it was the defensive effort that made this one a laugher, and set the tone for the rest of the series.

The Heat switched on the defensive intensity that makes them one of the best lockdown clubs in the league. Miami forced 27 turnovers, with James getting into Carmelo Anthony for an incredible two-way performance. Anthony finished with just 11 points and was three of 15 from the floor.

Heat Vs. Knicks, 2012 NBA Playoffs Game 1: Heat Lead 54-31 As LeBron James Goes Off

The Miami Heat lead the New York Knicks by 23 points after the first half of Game 1 at American Airlines Arena. The Heat went on an incredible 20-2 run in the second quarter to blow it open after an intense first 15 minutes. LeBron James was fantastic during the run, getting into the lane and drawing fouls and hitting circus shots from the outside. James finished with 23 points in the first 24 minutes, including 11 of 14 from the charity stripe. Towards the end of the half, he took a hard screen from Tyson Chandler, who was whistled for a flagrant one on the play. James had to shake off the whiplash from the screen. An animated gif below:

Analyst Jeff Van Gundy was unconvinced, calling it a flop by James and apoplectic that it was whistled as a flagrant. Video with Van Gundy's comments below:

No other Heat player was in double figures, but Dwyane Wade added eight points on four of seven from the floor. It was really intense right from the tip, as both teams ramped up and clearly put each other on notice that it was playoff basketball. Amare Stoudemire and Udonis Haslem got into a bit of a dust-up early on, which ended with some jawing but no physical altercation.

2012 NBA Playoffs, Heat Vs. Knicks, Game 1: Tyson Chandler May Miss Game, According To Report

The Miami Heat may have one less weapon to worry about on the court when they open the 2012 NBA Playoffs against the New York Knicks on Saturday. Via ESPNewYork.com:

New York Knicks center Tyson Chandler is battling the flu and could miss Game 1 of the team's playoff series against the Miami Heat on Saturday.

Interim coach Mike Woodson told reporters in Miami there is a "strong possibility" the defensive stopper won't play.

Chandler is already ailing, having battled a sore knee and a left wrist injury for the past few weeks. The New York big man did not play in the team's regular-season finale on Thursday, and did not practice on Friday. His absence from the lineup would severely hamper the Knicks defensive efforts against Miami.
