Stay connected for news and updates

The first semi final matchup between Ferris State and Union College surely did not disappoint. Both teams displayed impressive defenses, but it was the Bulldogs who came out victorious, defeating the Dutchmen 3-1 to advance to the National Championship on Saturday.

Junior left wing Kyle Bonis scored two goals to lead Ferris State to a victory over Union College.

Both teams honed in on their defensive skills, as everyone expected. Ferris State relied on their defenders to block shots, blocking 24 in the game. Union College did their best to block shots as well, blocking 20 in the game.

The Bulldogs trailed late in the third period and didn’t warm up until the latter half of the period, when its forwards began pressuring Dutchmen goalie Troy Groesnick.

Bonis scored with 4:43 left in regulation, which ultimately sealed the win for Ferris State.

The Bulldogs play again on Saturday at 7 p.m. to face the winner of the Boston College/Minnesota matchup.
