Chelsea Vs. Bayern Munich, 2012 Champions League Final: Chelsea Wins UEFA Championship, 4-3 On Penalty Kicks

The last five UEFA Champions League Finals matches that have gone into extra time, had to be decided on penalty kicks. That scenario would play itself out for the sixth consecutive time as Chelsea and Bayern would have to take penalty kicks to decide the championship

Thomas Muller's goal for Bayern Munich at the 83rd minute of regulation in the match gave his club a 1-0 lead and it appeared as if Bayern would emerge victorious. But Chelsea superstar Dider Drogba tied the match up at 1-1 with a header in the 88th minute of the match. The goal was Drogba's sixth in eight matches.

The outcome couldn't be decided in the thirty minutes of extra time and fans got a chance to take part in the most exciting aspect of soccer.

Bayern Munich went 4-0 when games go to penalties during the season and Chelsea was 0-2.

Chelsea and Bayern found themselves tied at three goals each when Didier Drogba stepped up for the final kick. Drogba fired a shot past Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer to seal the victory for Chelsea Football Club on Bayern Munich's home field.

The first half of the UEFA Champions League Final has been so far uneventful as the score sits tied at zero for the two clubs during the first half of play.

Bayern's David Gomez, one of the most efficient scorers in Champions League history, has had four shot attempts on goal but has been unable to score so far.

Chelsea Vs. Bayern Munich, 2012 Champions League Final: Kickoff Time, TV Schedule, Live Streaming And More

Chelsea is set to play a match in Miami in July at Sun Life Stadium against AC Milan, but before that happens the football club is fighting for a spot in next year's Champion's League and set to take on Bayern Munich in the 2012 UEFA Champion's League Final on Saturday afternoon. If Chelsea can best Bayern Munich, they'll take Tottenham's place as the fourth English team in next year's Champions League. If they lose, they're out unless they can claim the top spot in the EPL next season.

Bayern had to fight through the tournament, having a longer road than Chelsea, and look to cap it off with a win against a stronger club. Both teams are likely going to have to play with shuffled lineups however, as both teams are dealing with suspensions handed down in the semi-final round. Chelsea is missing Ramires, John Terry, Raul Meireles and Branislav Ivanovic while Bayern will be without Luiz Gustavo, Holger Badstuber and David Alaba, who are all suspended

Game Time: Saturday, May 19, 2012, 2:45 EDT

Location: Allianz Arena, Munich, Germany

TV: FOX

2012 UEFA Champions League Final, Chelsea Vs. Bayern Munich: Can Chelsea Take The Cup In Munich?

Before we take a look at the Champion's League final between Chelsea and Bayern Munich, let's take a second to consider the improbably paths each team took to get here.

The Semi-finals featured both Barcelona and Real Madrid and had soccer fans dreaming of an El Clasico rematch on Soccer's biggest stage. Barcelona over Chelsea was considered a lock, but even after going down to 10-men in the second leg, Chelsea were able to pull off an improbable win. It took a shootout on the second leg for Bayern to advance past Real, but when they did, Spanish soccer fans were left without a team in the final, an outcome most considered unlikely at best.

Now Bayern will be playing on their home field against Chelsea, who should be a decided underdog. Chelsea will likely miss out on qualifying for this tournament again next year based on their finish in the EPL. Bayern has home filed advantage and probably a better side. While the big name teams might not be in the final like everyone had anticipated, this should still be a pretty good matchup of talented squads.
