2012 Atlantic Sun Baseball Tournament Championship: Belmont To Play Winner Of FGCU And Kennesaw State

The 2012 Atlantic Sun Baseball Tournament championship field is finally set for Saturday Afternoon. Third seeded Kennesaw State will take on fourth seeded Florida Gulf Coast this afternoon at 1 P.M. EST with the winner moving on to face number one seed, Belmont, at 4 P.M. EST. The league champion receives the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Belmont advanced past Florida Gulf Coast on Friday by a final score of 6-4 to secure their berth in the championship game. The Bruins are looking to win their second consecutive Atlantic Sun Baseball championship while Kennesaw State and Florida Gulf Coast are looking to claim their first ever NCAA Tournament berth.

Atlantic Sun Baseball Tournament 2012 Schedule: Stetson Faces Elimination Against Kennesaw State

After upending No. 2 USC Upstate, 1-0, on Thursday and knocking them out of the Atlantic Sun tournament, No. 6 Stetson will take on No. 3 Kennesaw State at 3:00 p.m. this afternoon in what is an elimination game for both sides. Kennesaw State is coming off a 3-1 upset against No. 1 Belmont yesterday.

Stetson dropped two of three to Kennesaw State during the regular season, back in early April in Georgia. No. 4 Florida Gulf Coast is the only undefeated team remaining in the tournament.

The tournament is being hosted by Stetson. All games are played at Melching Field at Conrad Park in DeLand, Florida.

2012 Atlantic Sun Baseball Tournament: Stetson Survives In 2-1 Upset Win

The second round of the 2012 Atlantic Sun baseball tournament come to a close on Thursday night in DeLand, FL with the host team pulling out a gritty win.

No. 6 Stetson Vs. No. 2 USC Upstate, Stetson pulls upset 2-1: The Stetson Hatters were coming off a 15-inning loss to Belmont and were tasked with playing the early game of Thursday against the No. 2 seed in the tournament. Stetson was able to guy out a 2-1 upset win over USC Upstate, however.

No. 3 Kennesaw State Vs. No. 1 Belmont, State wins in upset 3-1: The No. 1 seeded Belmont Bears had a bye in the first round of the tournament, but Kennesaw State was the team who got the jump. For the first time in school history, Kennesaw State earned a win in the A-Sun tournament and did so by knocking off the No. 1 seed.

No. 4 FGCU Vs. No. 5 Mercer, FGCU wins 4-3: Like Stetson, Mercer was coming off a 15-inning game from the night before but Mercer won and therefore drew the late game of the day. The rest didn't appear to be enough for Mercer however, as FGCU pulled the close win 4-3.

2012 Atlantic Sun Baseball Tournament: Two Blowouts And One Long Game

The opening round of the 2012 Atlantic Sun baseball tournament kicked off on Wednesday.

No. 5 Mercer vs No. 2 USC Upstate, Mercer pounds USC Upstate 11-2: In the opening round of the Atlantic Sun baseball tournament the No. 5 seeded Mercer beat up on the Spartans to the tune of 11 runs. Nick Backlund had a huge game for Mercer, going 4-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI, while first baseman Travis Benn went 2-for-3 with three RBIs.

No. 4 FGCU vs No. 3 Kennesaw State, FGCU beats up Kennesaw State 12-4: FGCU got a six-run inning in top of the sixth inning to power past Kennesaw State in the opening round of the tournament after Kennesaw State tied the game 3-3 early on. A six-run sixth inning by FGCU however put them over the top and Kennesaw State just couldn't keep up offensively as FGCU won 12-4.

No. 6 Stetson vs No. 1 Belmont, Bears win in 15 innings 3-2: Stetson took an early lead over No. 1 seeded Belmont scoring two runs in the second inning, but mid-way through the game the Bears were able come tie up the game. Stetson took late lead in the eighth inning on a Mitchell Brennan hit. Belmont tied the game in the bottom of the ninth however, sending it into extra innings. After 15 innings of play, Belmont wins 3-2.

Atlantic Sun Baseball Tournament Final: Mercer Pounds USC Upstate, 11-2 In Opening Game

The Mercer Bears announced their presence in the Atlantic Sun Baseball Tournament with a big win over the USC Upstate Spartans on Wednesday, 11-2 at Melching Field at Conrad Park in DeLand, Fla.

Designated hitter Nick Backlund had a huge game going 4-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI. Also having a big game was first baseman Travis Benn, who went 2-for-3 with three RBIs.

Mercer starting pitcher Brandon Love went seven innings and allowed only one run on four hits to earn the victory. USC Upstate starting pitcher David Roseboom was rocked in one and two-thirds innings of work for five runs on six hits.

The Mercer bears continue on in their run for the Atlantic Sun Championship and will play the 7 p.m. game on Thursday. The opponent will be revealed when the day's tournament action is done. USC Upstate will play in the 11 a.m. game on Thursday.

Atlantic Sun Baseball Tournament 2012 Schedule: Mercer Takes On USC Upstate To Start Wednesday Play

The Florida Gulf Coast East begin play on Wednesday in the Atlantic Sun conference baseball tournament with a considerable wind in their sails. Seeded fourth in the tournament, the Eagles won nine of their last 12 games. They take on third seeded Kennesaw State, a team they swept in April, at 3:00 p.m.

An Eagles sweep of Stetson last weekend dropped that team to the sixth seed. Stetson plays No. 1 seeded Belmont at 7:00 p.m., the final game of the day for Wednesday. Stetson is hosting the Atlantic Sun tournament for the first time since 2009.
