To say that the 2012 Indianapolis 500 which ran Sunday afternoon was exciting was an understatement. Take for example the final lap which featured a crash by a desperate Takuma Sato in a last ditch effort to gain the lead and, of course, Dario Franchitti capturing the checkered flag.
In the post race discussion, Sato claims that Franchitti "crowded him" at the turn, causing him to crash. Franchitti has proclaimed himself innocent of any wrongdoing in the crash.
After winning the race, Franchitti gave a simple remembrance of Dan Wheldon by donning Wheldon's trademark white sunglasses in the winner's circle. Wheldon was killed in a in an October crash at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
