When I'll Have Another won the 138th running of the Kentucky Derby, the earnings that came with it were just as exciting as the race itself. With heavy favorites Union Rags and the eventual runner-up Bodemeister, drawing much of the attention, I'll Have Another flew under the radar as a potential winner. However, playing the role of cinderella fit I'll Have Another like a glove and the horse walked away with the first leg of the triple-crown.
The 19th positioned, I'll Have Another was favored at 12-1 odds. Here's how the win paid out:
| Horse | Win | Place | Show | |
| 19-I'll Have Another | $32.60 | $13.80 | $9.00 | |
| 6-Bodemeister | $6.20 | $5.60 | ||

I'll Have Another has won the 138th running of the Kentucky Derby. Coming into the race favored at 12-1 odds, I'll Have Another managed to battle up from the 19th starting position to beat out heavy favorite, Bodemeister in the final 300 yards of the race.
Prior to I'll Have Another's dramatic come from behind, Bodemeister was sprinting head-to-head with Trinniberg for the majority of the race. With the favorites being Bodemesiter at 6-1 odds and Union Rags at 9-2 odds, few pointed to I'll Have Another as a possible winner.
Despite being a 50-1 odds favorite, Florida-based Trinniberg came close to winning the race. Going head-to-head with Bodemeister sitting in the second position for much of the race, the horse appeared as though it could turn the corner and sprint it's way to a win. Unfortunately, that wasn't that case and I'll Have Another had the opportunity to play the role of underdog.
Here's how the race played out:

After a night of heavy rain and thunderstorms, Churchill Downs track superintendent Butch Lehr cancelled this morning's scheduled training and it's 13-race card.
The Huffington Post has the story on this morning's cancellations and how the weather could potentially affect today's race:
Butch Lehr (LEE'-ehr) made the decision early in the morning as crowds began to line up outside the historic Louisville track. Saturday is the 138th running of the Kentucky Derby.
The main track, which is dirt, was labeled sloppy at 8 a.m. EDT. The Derby will be run at 6:24 p.m. EDT, with the National Weather Service calling for mostly cloudy skies, a high near 85 and a 50 percent chance of pop-up rain.

Trinniberg still a longshot to win the 138th annual Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs
about 1 year ago Update 0 comments
The 138th annual Kentucky Derby is set for this afternoon at 5 ET and according to CBS.com this morning, Union Rags is now the favorite to win. Here's the quote:
A random selection of horse racing experts picked the No. 2 horse in the Kentucky Derby's morning line (9-2 odds) to win the first leg of the Triple Crown, but the Run for the Roses is anything but predictable
Bodemeister was the favorite when the post positions were unveiled earlier in the week, but he has since fallen out of the top 3 according to the general consensus of CBS's experts. Florida based based horse Trinniberg is still at 50-1 odds to win this afternoon's race. For the most updated odds on this afternoon's race, check out KentuckyDerby.com.

Ever wanted to bet on the horses in the Kentucky Derby but don't know how? Have no fear, as Matt Gardner of SB Nation has compiled a betting guide to get you started.
It is completely legal to bet on horse racing over the internet, although you will want to be careful of who you leave your money with. Some trusted sites include TwinSpires.com, TVG.com and ExpressBet.com.
Now that you have a place to bet, it's time to make one. There are three basic bets you can make on the race listed below.
WIN: A bet on a horse to win (if you don't know this you probably shouldn't be betting)
PLACE: A bet on a horse to finish either 1st or 2nd.
SHOW: A bet on a horse to finish 1st, 2nd or 3rd.
There are also more complex bets that stretch across multiple races that are explained in Gardner's article linked above.
Now it's time to pick a horse. Ever wonder what those numbers mean next to a horse's name? Those are the odds of the horse's chance of winning and the payout if they do. Here is an explanation.

To figure you how much you'll get paid if you hit your win bet, simply divide the numerator of the odds by the denominator, multiply that number by the amount bet, and then add the amount bet.
For example, if you took Florida-based horse Trinniberg to win at his current odds of 50-1 with a $2 bet...
50 x 2 + 2 = $102
Place and Show payouts are more difficult to calculate since tracks don't display the odds on those bets. Usually, they pay less than half what the winning odds play (unless the horse is a huge longshot and the favorite doesn't finish in the top three).
Now that you've read this guide, you are now on your way to becoming a savvy horse racing gambler!

The 2012 Kentucky Oaks are currently under a delay for approaching severe weather. The infield and grandstands are being evacuated, as the storm is expected to have high winds. Brad Panovich, a meteorologist at WCNC-TV shared a picture of the radar, and it doesn't look good at Churchill Downs.
The Oaks will try to be completed tonight, although the track conditions are expected to get very sloppy as a result of the rain that the system is bringing with it. The weather forecast for tomorrow's Kentucky Derby is expected to be the same, with a 40 percent chance of strong thunderstorms hitting Churchill Downs during the afternoon.

Jockey Robby Albarado, who has participated in eight Kentucky Derby races, was arrested for assualt on Friday according to Barbara Borden, the Acting Chief State Seward.
BREAKING: Jockey Robby Albarado arrested, according to Acting Chief State Steward Barbara Borden. He's off today's mounts. #KyOaks
— Gregory Hall (@gregoryahall) May 4, 2012
Albarado had been expected to mount Hard Not To Like in the Kentucky Oaks race, the fillies-only version of the Kentucky Derby. Because of this arrest, he will not participate in the Oaks
While he does not currently have a mount for the Kentucky Derby, there is always the possibility that a horse could wind up open on Derby day and he could ride then. However this assault charge could torpedo those plans.
The Derby is scheduled for a post time of 6:24 p.m. from Churchill Downs in Lexington, Ky. There will be massive TV coverage on NBC Sports Network prior to the running and NBC will have the broadcast of the race.
