Matt Kuchar was able to fight off a host of charging golfers to take home the 2012 Players Championship title with a score of 13-under.
Kuchar entered the day one stroke back of Kevin Na, who fell off the pace Sunday. While Kuchar finished with a round of two-under on Sunday, he was chased by Martin Laird who used a Sunday round of five-under to contend with Kuchar for the title before coming up two strokes short at 11-under. Zach Johnson, Rickie Fowler and Ben Curtis also came close to reaching Kuchar, but also came up short at 11-under as well.
This is the fourth career win for the 33-year-old Kuchar, his first since winning The Barclays in 2010.

Martin Laird of Scottland has jumped to the top of the leaderboard, as he is now in a tie with Matt Kuchar at 12-under par.
Laird has been red-hot on Sunday, shooting a six-under through 13 holes. Kuchar has been able to hold his spot at the top shooting one-under through nine holes. The two golfers are three strokes ahead of the next closest golfers.
After beginning the day tied for the lead, Kevin Na has struggled, bogeying four out of the last five holes entering the back nine. He has also just completed the ninth hole.
Another contender, Rickie Fowler has also stumbled on Sunday, falling to eight-under after putting in a round of one-over through 10 holes.
Tiger Woods overcame a horrific front nine to finish the tournament at one-under. He is currently tied for 39th.

Tiger Woods is ending his 2012 Players championship on a very sour note, shooting a four-over through 11 holes.
Woods entered the day 10 strokes back of leader Kevin Na, but has struggled mightily on Sunday. His round took a turn for the worst on hole four, when he shot a double bogey. Woods followed that up with bogeys on six and eight. He is currently tied for 51st place.
Leader Kevin Na and the trailing Matt Kuchar are slated to tee off at 2:45 p.m. ET. Rickie Fowler, currently in third, will begin his final round at 2:34 p.m. ET.

The fourth and final round of the 2012 Players Championship is under way, with just under half the field having teed off on Sunday morning at TPC Sawgrass. Kevin Na is the tournament leader at 12-under par, with Matt Kuchar and Rickie Fowler just below Na on the leaderboard. Kuchar is one shot back, at 11-under, and Fowler sits at nine-under par after a stellar round of 66 on Saturday.
No golfer in the field has made a huge surge on Sunday morning, with the best performance actually coming from American George McNeil, who is three-under for the day through 14 holes. McNeil is looking to rebound from an abysmal round of 82 on Saturday.

Jonathan Byrd is making a pretty nice charge so far in his round, he is 2-under through his first four holes and is now just one shot back of the leaders.
After finishing his round at even par on Thursday, Rory McIlroy birdied the first hole he played on Friday morning to get back into red figures. Tiger Woods has yet to tee off on Friday after finishing his round at 2-over par on Thursday.

Round 1 of The Players Championship has been completed, and there are a number of big name players that will need great performances in Round 2 to make the cut. Ian Poulter and Martin Laird closed the round joint top of the leaderboard, shooting seven-under par on the day. Poulter played in the morning starting on the 1st hole, and Laird played in the afternoon starting at the 10th hole.
Tiger Woods had a rough day, shooting two-over par, and he's in serious danger of missing the cut. Phil Mickelson and Lee Westwood finished the day one-under, while Luke Donald, Rory McIlroy and last week's winner Rickie Fowler all finished at even par. The Players has not been kind to the world's top ranked players so far.

The PGA Tour's so-called fifth major hasn't seen anything of note come out of the top-ranked players in the field on Thursday. The top of the leaderboard at The Players Championship is notably light on star power. Nine of the top-ten ranked golfers in the world are competing at TPC Sawgrass this week, and none of them are within five shots of the lead late on Thursday afternoon.
Ian Poulter's seven-under par score has held up for a while and looks likely to be the low score at the end of the day. Martin Laird has made an impressive charge, and he's six-under with one hole remaining. Lee Westwood and Rory McIlroy are both one-under par, while Phil Mickelson is even par and Luke Donald is one-over par.

Tiger Woods is flirting with another missed cut after a slow start at the 2012 Players Championship, but he's not the only big name having a tough day. While things aren't going poorly for the world's top-ranked players, none of them are surging up the leaderboard. All of Lee Westwood, Rory McIlroy and Phil Mickelson are at one-under par near the end of their front nine. Martin Kaymer, Luke Donald and Steve Stricker are all at even par, while Hunter Mahan is two-over.
The current leader of the tournament is Ian Poulter, who finished his round with an impressive seven-under 65. He's followed by Blake Adams at six-under, while Kevin Na and Ben Crane are five-under. The player with the biggest chance to make a surge up the leaderboard is Martin Laird, who is four-under through his first nine holes. Adam Scott, who is three-under through nine holes, is the biggest name within four strokes of Poulter.

Tiger Woods had a very up and down first round at the 2012 Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. He finished the round with a two-over 74. Woods was up and down in the first three holes, bogeying two of the first three holes, while birdying hole No. 2.
After those three holes, Woods finished the front nine without giving up any strokes. But the first hole of the back nine was his third bogey of the day to push him to three-over. Woods then finished with two more bogeys and birdies on the back nine to finish at 74 for the first round, tying him at 117th.
Its an uphill climb for Woods as he is currently nine strokes behind current first round leader Ian Poulter.

American Blake Adams currently has the lead in the clubhouse at the 2012 Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla but Englishman Ian Poultier is seven-under through 17 holes. Adams finished his first round with six-under 66 to give him the early edge over the rest of the field before Poultier took the lead.
American Kevin Na is right behind him after shooting a five-under 67. Michael Thompson and Harrison Frazar are both tied with a four-under 68. Four other golfers are tied at three-under, including Irishman Padraig Harrington.
Other golfers near the lead that have rounds still in progress are Sean O'Hair at five-under through 15 and Matt Kuchar at four-under through 17.
Other notable golfers in progress include both Hunter Mahan and Tiger Woods both at two-over near the end of their rounds.

Tiger Woods has been all over the place, both good and bad, through his first nine holes of the PLAYERS Championship at the TPC Sawgrass. He has three bogies and two birdies on the front nine, good enough for a 1-over mark through his first nine and a surprising seven shot deficit.
Blake Adams is a staggering 6-under through the first 15 holes at the TPC, which is a little surprising considering how difficult this course usually plays. He holds a two shot lead over Michael Thompson, Kris Banks, Arjun Atwal and Kevin Na. This is normally a tournament that separates the best players in the World, so it's surprising to see that the leader board doesn't contain some of the game's top names. Ian Poulter is the biggest name near the top, and he is three shots back at 3-under.

The 2012 Players Championship got underway on Thursday morning, and there are some players who have come out of the gate really quickly despite the difficulty of this course. Blake Adams is at 4-under thru eight holes, an incredible pace that he will likely fall off of. Geoff Ogilvy and Kevin Na are both tied at 3-under.
Coming off his first career PGA Tour win last weekend, Rickie Fowler is -1 thru the first two holes.
But of course, it couldn't be a PGA Tour leader board update without a quick look at Tiger Watch! Woods got underway just a few minutes ago, and is only through one hole on his round. But he bogeyed the first hole and is already five shots back of the leaders. 71 holes to go for Tiger, and he's already trying to climb out of a hole.
The new darling of the PGA Tour Rory McIlroy will tee off later this afternoon. For a complete live scoreboard, please head here.

After a brief Spring swing through the South, the PGA Tour returns to Florida this week for the "5th Major." The 2012 Players Championship tees off on Thursday morning, with what is often considered the best field on Tour all season. TPC Sawgrass is one of the top stops for players from all Tours, and usually eclipses the majors and WGC events when it comes to World Ranked players in attendance.
This year is no different, as the Tour comes to Sawgrass red-hot after last week's thrilling playoff at Quail Hollow. Rickie Fowler, coming off his first American Tour win, will play early Thursday with Tiger Woods and Hunter Mahan in a super group. Woods has just one win at THE PLAYERS, and has withdrawn in his past two appearances at Sawgrass. Mahan, meanwhile, is having as good a year on Tour as any American, with two marquee victories under his belt and a lead in the FedEx Cup standings. But while that group may have the most familiar name in the game, this tournament is loaded from start to finish.
Television coverage will be extended for this venerable tournament, with Golf Channel beginning its broadcast at 1:00 p.m. ET on Thursday and going all the way up to 7:00 p.m. ET. Thursday afternoon coverage will likely focus on two specific groups, playing back-to-back and going off at 1:39 and 1:49 p.m. The first will feature No.1 player in the world Luke Donald, defending FedEx Cup Champion Bill Haas, and superstar Lee Westwood. Playing right behind them will be Rory McIlroy, newly minted Hall-of-Famer Phil Mickelson, and Steve Stricker. Of course, all these groups are filled with the top talent in the game, vying for the largest purse in golf.

The PLAYERS Championship at TPC Sawgrass gets underway on Thursday, and as he tends to be the day before a significant tournament like this, Tiger Woods is all everyone wants to talk about. Edgar Thompson wrote a preview of Tiger's weekend at the New York Times, and it doesn't seem like he has very much confidence in the former World No. 1.
"Guys, I’ve done this before," Woods said. "I’ve been through this. Actually, a lot of you guys lived it with me, went through those periods where I wasn’t quite where I wanted to be. I had some pretty good runs after that, and this is no different."
The numbers do not agree. In 2004, his first year with Haney, Woods won once, but he also posted 14 top 10 finishes in 19 events. In 19 full-field events since he began with Foley, Woods has one win and four top 10s.
Tiger just can't seem to get his swing on track, and all of the criticism probably isn't helping. The only thing that will help is if he can get a win in an important tournament like this to try and boost his confidence.

Rain had been expected at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra -- the site of the 2012 Players Championship. It finally came on Tuesday at 11 a.m., hitting the course steadily for about 20 minutes and interrupting practice for about two hours. Players had temporarily evacuated the course after lighting had been detected in the area. They resumed preparations at 1 a.m.
Forecasters expect a good chance of rain for Tuesday, as well as Wednesday. But that should subside for the tournament, which begins on Thursday. Temperatures in the low 80s are expected for Thursday and little to no rain is anticipated during the four-day weekend event.
Before the rain hit, Rickie Fowler, Sergio Garcia, Rory McIlroy and Luke Donald were among those out on the range.

Fred Couples has withdrawn from the 2012 Players Championship. Couples cited illness as his reason for pulling out of the tournament, according to a report from the Associated Press.
Couples is not the only high profile golfer sitting out the upcoming tournament at TPC Sawgrass. This year's Maters champion Bubba Watson will also be at home, spending time with his infant son. Dustin Johnson and Anthony Kim are out with injuries.
Couples has won The Players Championship twice in his career; his last win at TPC Sawgrass came in 1996. A win in the Senior Players Championship qualified him for the field this weekend. The PGA will not replace him because he was an addition to the regular field of players.
The Players Championship starts on Thursday. K.J. Choi won last year's tournament.
