The PLAYERS Championship: Tiger Woods Will Face Difficult Test At Sawgrass

The PLAYERS Championship at TPC Sawgrass gets underway on Thursday, and as he tends to be the day before a significant tournament like this, Tiger Woods is all everyone wants to talk about. Edgar Thompson wrote a preview of Tiger's weekend at the New York Times, and it doesn't seem like he has very much confidence in the former World No. 1.

"Guys, I’ve done this before," Woods said. "I’ve been through this. Actually, a lot of you guys lived it with me, went through those periods where I wasn’t quite where I wanted to be. I had some pretty good runs after that, and this is no different."

The numbers do not agree. In 2004, his first year with Haney, Woods won once, but he also posted 14 top 10 finishes in 19 events. In 19 full-field events since he began with Foley, Woods has one win and four top 10s.

Tiger just can't seem to get his swing on track, and all of the criticism probably isn't helping. The only thing that will help is if he can get a win in an important tournament like this to try and boost his confidence.

We'll keep you up to date with all the latest news and updates for this tournament in this StoryStream, but you can head to Waggle Room or the SB Nation golf hub page for more on the PLAYERS.
