Florida State Vs. Arizona, 2012 CWS Scores: Seminoles Eliminated In 10-3 Thumping By Wildcats

The No. 3 seeded Florida State Seminoles were eliminated from the 2012 College World Series on Thursday night, falling 10-3 to the Arizona Wildcats in the finals of Bracket 1 in Omaha. The 'Noles fell behind early as the Wildcats put a six-spot on the board in the first inning. It was a disastrous first inning for Mike Martin, whose teams are still searching for their first CWS ring. The Seminoles committed three errors and Brandon Leibrandt gave up four hits which promptly led to six Wildcat runs. Only two of the runs were earned, and Luke Weaver finished the inning on the mound.

The Wildcats added another big crooked number in the bottom of the fourth to really blow things open. Two homers off Weaver blew it completely ajar at 9-1. Wildcats' starter Kurt Heyer pitched 7.1 innings, allowing just two earned runs while scattering nine FSU hits.

Arizona advances to the CWS best-of-three championship series, where they await the winner of South Carolina and Arkansas.

Florida State Vs. Arizona, 2012 CWS: Seminoles Need Two Straight Against Wildcats

The sole loss for the Florida State Seminoles in the 2012 College World Series was a 12 inning heartbreaking 4-3 loss to the Arizona Wildcats on Friday, June 15. Since that loss, the Seminoles earned two convincing victories over Stony Brook and UCLA to earn themselves another chance against the Wildcats.

Due to the double elimination format of the tournament, Florida State will need to win two consecutive games against the Wildcats in order to advance to the championship finals. The first of those two potential games will be tonight at 5 p.m. ET on ESPN2.

In the first matchup between the two teams, Arizona relied heavily on junior Kurt Heyer, the winningest pitcher in Division I. He pitched 7.2 innings, allowing six hits and just one earned run, throwing 128 pitches and eight strikeouts.

The Wildcats will once again rely on Heyer as he is set to start tonight against the Seminoles. Florida State will look to counter Heyer's impact by continuing on their current trend of strong offense.

Florida State Vs. UCLA, 2012 CWS Scores: Seminoles Stay Alive With 4-1 Win Over Bruins

The Florida State Seminoles stayed alive in Omaha on Tuesday night with a 4-1 win over UCLA. The 'Noles move on to play Arizona in the finals of their bracket on Thursday. Junior Scott Sitz was absolutely dominating against the No. 2 seeded Bruins, striking out eight and allowing just one run in 6.2 innings of work. His five-hit outing completely put the Bruins' offense out of whack and locked up the win.

The Seminoles took advantage of the wildness of UCLA starter Zack Weiss, who managed to get just one out -- but not before he walked home two runs to give FSU a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Mike Martin's club would add to the lead with a remarkable suicide squeeze play that brought home two runs in the fourth inning. After three straight singles, Jayce Boyd put down the bunt and UCLA third baseman Kevin Kramer could not scoop the ball, running past it and allowing Devon Travis to motor around from second. FSU would only get two more hits for the rest of the game, but with Sitz crusing, it would be enough.

The Seminoles will now need to beat Arizona twice in order to advance to the championship series. Arizona defeated FSU 4-3 in their first game in Omaha.

2012 College World Series: John Holland Still With Florida State After Shoplifting Charges Are Dropped

The shoplifting charges against freshman infielder John Holland were dropped today, according to a tweet by Omaha news anchor Jim Siedlecki. The tweet also stated that Holland is still with the team in Omaha.

Holland, who started 16 games for the Seminoles this season, hitting .243 with eight doubles and 10 RBIs, was arrested on Monday on suspicion of switching price tags on items at a sporting goods store in Village Pointe, in Omaha in order to purchase the items at a lower price.

Holland started in both of the Seminoles' College World Series games as the designated hitter, going 1-for-5 with two RBIs in the loss to Arizona and 0-for-1 with two walks and two runs scored in the victory over Stony Brook.

Florida State Vs. UCLA, 2012 CWS: Seminoles Face UCLA In Elimination Game

With an emphatic 12-2 victory over Stony Brook, the Florida State Seminoles avoided elimination from the College World Series on Sunday. It was the third time in FSU's last four games that the Seminoles were able to tally 12 or more runs as they continue to rely on a hot offense.

UCLA, alternatively, has made their way through the bracket with pitching and defense, allowing no more than two runs in three of their last four games. The sole exception was a 4-0 loss to the Arizona Wildcats on Sunday, June 17 that sent the Bruins to an elimination game against the Seminoles.

The first pitch for UCLA is set to be delivered at 8 pm ET on Tuesday, June 19 (today) and will be broadcasted live on ESPN.

College World Series 2012: Florida State Takes Center Stage On Tuesday Night

The College World Series continues in Omaha on Tuesday night with just one game on the docket. The Florida State Seminoles, the No. 3 seed, will take on UCLA, the No. 2 seed in an elimination game. The winner will move on to face undefeated Arizona in the finals of their bracket.

The Seminoles are coming off a 12-2 trouncing of Cinderella Stony Brook, righting the ship after an opening Omaha loss to the Wildcats. The Seminoles are the only remaining team from the Sunshine State after the Gators were unceremoniously bounced in just their second game with a Monday loss to Kent State. Scott Sitz will take the mound for Mike Martin, and the junior says he's drawn on the experience of seeing action on the mound two years ago in the Noles' trip to Omaha. Tuesday's schedule below:

No. 3 Florida State vs. No. 2 UCLA -- ESPN/ESPN3, 8 p.m.

Florida Vs. Kent State, 2012 CWS Scores: Gators Sent Home After 5-4 Loss

The Florida Gators are heading home after a heartbreaking loss to Kent State in just their second game in Omaha. The Gators fell behind 5-1 early on but battled back against the Kent State bullpen to pull within a run. But Florida squandered multiple opportunities to either tie it up or take the lead but the bats could simply not come through in the right moment.

Trailing 5-4, the KSU bullpen started the top of the ninth with 11 straight balls, walking both Preston Tucker and Mike Zunino. Cody Dent came on to drop a sacrifice bunt, which he managed to send back to the pitcher on a 3-2 count after getting ahead 3-0 in the count. The wildness continued as Daniel Pigott was hit by a pitch to load up the bases with just one out. Casey Turgeon got ahead 3-0 as well, but struck out on three straight pitches - the first two questionably outside and the third on a check swing. Justin Shafer put a good swing a Josh Pierce offering, sending it the other way nearly to the warning track. But KSU would pull it in to end the No. 1 Gators' postseason run and send them home a disappointing 0-2.

Devon Travis and Justin Gonzalez led the 'Noles offense with three RBI's apiece in the game while Sherman Johnson contributed two and James Ramsey added one to Florida State's nine RBI's on the day.

Mike Compton started on the mound for Florida State and pitched six complete innings and gave up six hits, two earned runs while walking two Stony Brook batters and striking out four.

Florida Vs. South Carolina, 2012 College World Series: Gators Fall 7-3 To Gamecocks

Despite being the No. 1 overall seed at the 2012 College World Series, the Florida Gators were unable to defeat their SEC rival and the two-time defending national champion South Carolina Gamecocks on Saturday night, falling 7-3 at TD Ameritrade Park. The Gamecocks have now won 22 straight NCAA postseason games.

The Gators jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third, but after threatening all game long the Gamecocks finally broke through in the fifth inning to take a 3-2 lead. South Carolina had stranded seven runners on base in the first four innings before designated hitter Erik Payne cleared the bases in the fifth.

Florida Vs. South Carolina, 2012 CWS Game Preview: Gators Looking To Top Gamecocks

In a battle of two teams from the SEC with a lot of baseball history, the Florida Gators and South Carolina Gamecocks will face off on Saturday night in the 2012 College World Series.

Florida and South Carolina met in March during the 2012 SEC baseball regular season and the Gators took two of the three meetings between the two teams, although the Gamecocks did combine to score 13 runs to Florida's 16 during their series.

In 2011, South Carolina swept Florida and won their second straight national championship.

The Gators Mike Zunino will be relied upon to lead Florida to victory. The All-American catcher and the 2011 SEC player of the year has led Florida to three consecutive College World Series berths.

The Gators opened the season No. 1 in all four polls and are now a top-seed in Omaha as well.

The Florida Gators are the No. 1 overall seed entering the 2012 College World Series, but they will face a stiff test right off the bat as they take the field against SEC rival and two-time defending national champion South Carolina on Saturday night in Omaha. The first game of the day will see No. 2 seed Arkansas take on No. 3 seed Kent State, the second "Cinderella" team to make the 2012 College World Series, alongside Stony Brook. The winners of the two games will meet on Monday night, as will the losers of both games.

FSU Vs. Arizona, 2012 CWS Scores: Seminoles Go Down 4-3 In Extra Innings

The Florida State Seminoles took on the Arizona Wildcats in the opening round of the 2012 College World Series in Omaha, Neb. but couldn't muster the same results they were able to in their Super Regional. Both teams scored points in bunches in their Super Regional games, but both team's offenses struggled to plate runs and were forced to play extra innings.

Arizona starting pitcher Kurt Heyer was able to cool off the FSU bats that had knocked in 35 runs in their past two games, lasting 7.1 innings and striking out eight batters. Heyer was in command for much of the night, giving up just one earned run on a Sherman Johnson that cut the Wildcats lead to 2-1.

Florida State found themselves trailing 3-1 late in the game, but a clutch double into the gap of left-field by John Holland tied the game in the bottom of the sixth. The two teams would trade innings as each team's pitching kept the other team's bats in check, but Arizona was finally able to score in the top of the 12th inning on a Johnny Field RBI double giving Arizona the lead and eventually the win.

Florida State will now take on Stoney Brook on Sunday afternoon while Arizona will take on UCLA. In the last 31 College World Series, only three teams have dropped their opening game and gone on to win the National Title.

College World Series 2012: Opening Ceremonies For CWS Canceled Due To Severe Weather In Omaha

The College World Series Opening Ceremonies were canceled on Thursday night because of inclement weather in the Omaha area. Severe weather, with winds up to 60 to 70 mph, was expected but organizers also planned to go ahead with the ceremonies. That changed shortly after 7 p.m. ET when they officially announced the cancellation. South Carolina was on the field practicing when officials cleared them off and asked fans to leave the stands. A tarp covered home plate and the pitcher's mound, bracing for potential heavy rain.

The organizers of the CWS announced that private smaller ceremony would be held for just the teams later on Thursday. The Florida State Seminoles will begin play on Friday night, with first pitch expected around 9 p.m. ET. The Gators will play at the same time on Saturday.
