Florida Vs. South Carolina, 2012 College World Series: Gators Fall 7-3 To Gamecocks

Stay connected for news and updates

Despite being the No. 1 overall seed at the 2012 College World Series, the Florida Gators were unable to defeat their SEC rival and the two-time defending national champion South Carolina Gamecocks on Saturday night, falling 7-3 at TD Ameritrade Park. The Gamecocks have now won 22 straight NCAA postseason games.

The Gators jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third, but after threatening all game long the Gamecocks finally broke through in the fifth inning to take a 3-2 lead. South Carolina had stranded seven runners on base in the first four innings before designated hitter Erik Payne cleared the bases in the fifth.

Florida will now face Kent State in an elimination game to be played on Monday night. South Carolina will face Arkansas in the nightcap.
