Marlins Vs. Phillies Recap: Miami Drops Series Opener, 6-4

Coming of a franchise record-setting month of May, the Miami Marlins looked to keep it rolling in June on Friday night against the Phillies. But Charlie Manuel's offense broke out a bit, putting six runs on the board which were simply too much for a later Miami rally to overcome.

Marlins' starter Mark Buerhle did not have his best stuff, giving up 11 hits in just five innings of work. He allowed four earned runs, including a two-run shot by Hunter Pence which pushed Phillies lead to 4-1 in the fifth inning. But the lefty is also known for his fielding ability, and he made the highlight of the game in the first inning when he slide across the first base line to scoop a knubber by Jimmy Rollis. Buerhle spun around on his knees and made a perfect throw to beat the speedy shortstop.

Giancarlo Stanton continued his raking, doubling home Omar Infante in the first inning off Kyle Kendrick. Logan Morrison and pinch-hitting Justin Ruggiano hit back-to-back 400-foot bombs off Antonio Bastardo in the top of the eighth inning, but the solo shots were too little and too late. Miami will try to even the series on Saturday with Ricky Nolasco on the mound.
