2012 Wimbledon Championships Men's Final: Roger Federer Sinks Andy Murray In Four Sets

Andy Murray's bid to become first British Wimbledon champion in seven decades came to an end Sunday in the Men's Final, as he fell to Rodger Federer in four sets, 4-6, 7-5, 6-3, 6-4.

Murray came out hot winning the first set, however Federer took the next three with unbelievable play that could not be matched. The match was marred by a brief rain delay in the third set, to which Federer took the majority of the games afterward.

This is the seventh Wimbledon title for Federer and the 17th Grand Slam title in his career. He now has 75 career victories between Grand Slam and ATP World Tour events.

2012 Wimbledon Championships: Andy Murray Takes On Roger Federer In Men's Final

Britain's Andy Murray is off to a rousing start Sunday at the All England Club. Looking to become the first Brit in 70 years to capture the men's championship at Wimbledon, Murray has won the first set 6-4 over Roger Federer. Live action can be seen on ESPN.

Six-time champion Federer reached the final by defeating top seed Novak Djokovic in the other semifinal, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. Federer has beaten Murray in two other grand slam finals, the 2008 U.S. Open and the 2010 Australian Open.

2012 Wimbledon: Venus And Serena Williams Win Doubles Title

Nine hours after winning her fifth Wimbledon singles championship, Serena Williams took to Centre Court with her older sister Venus to win their fifth doubles championship. They defeated the tandem of Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hradecka 7-5, 6-4.

It was the Williams sisters first tournament together in two years.

Combined, the victory was the sister's 14th Grand Slam doubles title, good for third most in tennis history. Serena set a Wimbledon record for most aces in the tournament and surprisingly, her sister Venus ended their doubles match on an ace as well.

The tournament should serve as a warm-up for the sisters who will return to London to compete in the 2012 Olympic Games. The sisters are the two-time defending gold medalists.

2012 Wimbledon: Serena Williams Wins Women's Final For Fifth Time

Serena Williams survived a scare from Agnieszka Radwanska on Saturday in the 2012 Wimbledon Women's Final, eventually emerging with a 6-1, 5-7, 6-2 victory to earn her fifth Wimbledon crown and 14th Grand Slam championship overall.

Williams easily won the first set 6-1, dominating Radwanska so thoroughly the match looked to surely be over. However, 36 unforced errors from Williams allowed Radwanska to hang in the match, and earn the second set, before the sheer power of Williams again took over in the third set on her way to tying sister Venus with five Wimbledon titles.

At 30 years of age, Williams becomes the oldest woman to win a Grand Slam singles title since Martina Navratilova also won at 30 in 1990.

Wimbledon 2012 Live TV Schedule: Roger Federer, Andy Murray Go Head-To-Head

Andy Murray will get the opportunity to live his dream in the Wimbledon final match when facing six-time winner Roger Federer. Murray, the first Brit to make it to the final since 1938, has obviously never won the tournament or competed in the championship match, while going against an all-time great in Federer. It should make for excellent drama and interesting conversation, especially if Murray were to win.

In all three of Murray's appearances in major finals, he hasn't won a single set, much less a title. So a victory on Sunday, against Federer, nonetheless, would be a huge feat.

Take a look at the match schedule and broadcast information right here:

Date/Time: Sunday, July 8, 9 a.m. ET

2012 Wimbledon Results: Previously Unranked Brian Baker Advances To Round Of 16

A year ago, Brian Baker was unranked and unknown, coaching at Belmont University in Nashville and playing in the Middle Tennessee Tennis League. But on Saturday he joined Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic in the Sweet 16 of Wimbledon after not playing on grass in seven years.

Baker defeated Benoit Paire 6-4, 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 to advance where he will face Philipp Kohlschreiber of Germany who defeated Lukas Rosol who knocked off Rafael Nadal.

What makes Baker's story so remarkable is that last June, his ranking was nonexistent. This past January, he was ranked No. 456 in the world. Now he's ranked 78th. He started gaining attention when he reached the final in Nice this past May and made it to the second round of the French Open.

Additionally, he's had to overcome multiple surgeries, the most serious being a Tommy John procedure on his right elbow.

2012 Wimbledon Results: Roger Federer Comes From Behind To Defeat Julian Benneteau

Roger Federer was nearly upset against Julian Benneteau, but Federer rallied from losing the first two sets to ultimately win and move on by defeating Benneteau 4-6, 6-7, 6-2, 7-6 and 6-1 in Friday's third round match.

Benneteau started off strong in the first set by taking advantage on his lone chance to break Federer and was able to put him down a hole to start the match. The second set also went Benneteau's way but it was much tougher as Federer was able to go game for game against Benneteau. The two held serve through the tiebreak until Benneteau was able to get the win to go up two sets.

In the third set is when Federer made his comeback and easily took care of Benneteau. In that third set it seemed that Benneteau was content in giving away the set to conserving his energy. The fourth set went to a tiebreaker, and Benneteau was going strong and holding his own against Federer, but he could not win the tiebreaker. During that fourth set Benneteua picked up some sort of upper leg injury which slowed him down.

In the final set, Federer would cruise to a 6-1 victory and complete his comeback.

2012 Wimbledon Scores: Rafael Nadal Stunned By Lukas Rosol

For the first time since 2005, Rafael Nadal has exited a major in the second round. The former Wimbledon champion has been eliminated by Lukas Rosol of the Czech Republic, the No. 100 ranked player in the world. The match was a five-set epic, with Rosol eventually prevailing 6-7, 6-4, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4.

The match was played at Centre Court, which has a retractable roof and lights. When darkness fell upon the stadium before the beginning of the fifth set, the match was delayed to close the roof and turn on the lights so that the match could continue. Rosol, who lost some momentum in a tough fourth set, appeared to benefit from the delay with a fantastic fifth set performance. 11 of his 22 aces came in the final set, as Nadal -- arguably the best returner in the world -- failed to deal with his serve.

2012 Wimbledon: Sloane Stephens Advances, Samantha Stosur Out

The second round of play at Wimbledon started on Wednesday. The day also includes a handful of holdover matches pushed back by Tuesday's rain. There were a pair of upsets in the early going, a major one and another involving Florida's Sloane Stephens.

Stephens upended No. 23 Petra Cetkovska using a tiebreaker on the first set for a final score of 7-6, 4-6, 6-3. The win advances Stephens to the third round.

The day's biggest upset, so far, came when unseeded Arantxa Rus of the Netherlands beat Australia's Samantha Stosur, the fifth seed. Rus won the first and third sets to take the match and a ticket to the third round.

On the men's side, No. 3 Roger Federer walked past Fabio Fognini in three sets. His path the third round has been a relative easy one, but things should start getting more difficult as the tournament field gets smaller.

Both top seeds, Novak Djokovic and Maria Sharapova play later on Wednesday, weather permitting.

2012 Wimbledon: Americans Start Strong On Tuesday

The first day of competition in the 2012 Championships at Wimbledon didn't go so well for a few Americans as both Venus Williams and John Isner were eliminated on Monday. However, Tuesday saw much more success for Americans as several earned passes to the second round with strong play in the first round.

Among those that had very strong Tuesday performances was Florida resident, Serena Williams, who defeated Barbora Zahlavova Strycova in straight sets, losing just six games.

Also winning on Tuesday were Mardy Fish, Jesse Levine, Brian Baker and Christina McHale. The first round wasn't without defeat for Americans though as a few saw their doubles play in the tournament come to an end. Among those that were eliminated from doubles play was Fort Lauderdale-native Sloane Stephens who was paired Alla Kudryavtseva of Russia.

Andy Roddick headlines the remaining Americans that will play on Tuesday.

2012 Wimbledon Scores: John Isner, Venus Williams Highlight Rough Opening Day For Americans

The opening day of play at Wimbledon concluded Monday. It was a day that featured a handful of upsets along and one that was not particularly kind for Americans playing in the tournament. Venus Williams made headlines early when she fell at the hands of Elena Vesnina. John Isner was also sent packing on the men's side.

Isner, ranked No. 11, lost in five set to Alejandro Falla, 6-4, 6-7 (16), 3-6, 7-6 (16), 7-5. Isner was the top-rated American on the men's side. He served up 31 aces, but committed 49 unforced errors that ultimately proved to be his undoing. There was one more upset on the men's side with No. 6 Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic losing in three sets to Latvia's Ernests Gulbis.

Sloane Stephens of Fort Lauderdale won her match against Karolina Pliskova in two straight sets.

The tournament's biggest names had little problems advancing over their first-round opponents. Top-seeded Novak Djokovic waltzed past Juan Carlos Ferrero. Roger Federer, the No. 3 seed, got around Albert Ramos. On the women's draw, 2012 French Open winner Maria Sharapova beat her opponent, Anastasia Rodionova, in two sets.

Wimbledon 2012 Scores And Results: Venus Williams Out Early; Djokovic Advances

The first round of play at Wimbledon began Monday. Already, the 2012 tournament has suffered a high-profile casualty in the early going, with Venus Williams eliminated from women's singles play.

Elena Vesnina beat Williams in two straight sets by a score of 6-1, 6-3. Monday's loss is the latest in what has been a disappointing stretch for Williams, who was dispatched much early than many thought at the 2012 French Open.

Beyond Williams' loss, things have proceeded mostly as expected on the women's side. No. 5 Samantha Stosur and No. 3 Agnieszka Radwanska both won in early matches on Monday. Top-seeded Maria Sharapova takes on Anastasia Rodionova later in the day.

On the men's side, No. 1 Novak Djokovic cruised past Juan Carlos Ferrero in three straight sets.

2012 Wimbledon Draw And Bracket: Tough Draw For One Williams Sister

It's been four years since Venus Williams, 32, won the 2008 Wimbledon Championships, her last Grand Slam victory. Since then the Palm Beach Gardens, FL resident has fallen to a level of mediocrity, entering most tournaments unseeded.

As the world's No. 55 ranked player, the five-time Wimbledon winner enters the 2012 tournament unseeded and faces the daunting task of escaping the first two rounds that would likely require her to beat Agnieszka Radwanska, the world's No. 3 ranked player. Prior to a shot at Radwanska, Williams would have to beat Elena Vesnina in the first round.

Her sister, Serena Williams, has a much easier path laid down in front of her as the No. 6 seeded women's single player in the tournament. She begins the tournament against Barbora Zahlavova Strycova and would reasonably not have to face a seeded opponent until at least the third round if she can manage to avoid upset like she received at the 2012 French Open.

The sole Florida-native in the tournament, Sloane Stephens of Fort Lauderdale, will face fellow unseeded Karolina Pliskova of Czech Republic. If Stephens can beat Pliskova she will likely face another Czech when she is lined up to face Petra Cetkovska in the second round.
