U.S. Open 2012 Results: Jim Furyk, Graeme McDowell Tied Atop Leaderboard After Saturday

For Thursday and Friday, Tiger Woods was in it. He shot a 69 in round one and then a 70 in round two. But on moving day, on Saturday, things fell apart, as he bogeyed two of his final three holes to finish 5-over par for the day. And now, going into the final round, he's at 4-over for the tournament, tied at 14th and seemingly out of the running at the U.S. Open at The Olympic Club in San Francisco.

Meanwhile, Jim Furyk and Graeme McDowell sit atop the leaderboard at 1-under par. Furyk shot a 68 on Saturday, while McDowell finished with an even-par 70. In third is Fredrik Jacobson, who also shot a 68 on Saturday to remain two strokes behind Furyk and McDowell.

2012 U.S. Open Leaderboard: Nick Watney Hits Albatross; No One Challenging Michael Thompson

Nick Watney is having a fairly difficult first nine holes in his U.S. Open. Coming into the 17th hole, which was his 8th hole of the day, he was three-over par. Incredibly, he sunk an albatross on that hole, becoming the second player to hole out a double eagle in a major this year. He's now one-over par.

Michael Thompson still leads the field by a wide margin. The course hasn't been any easier this afternoon than it was in the morning, and it seems unlikely that anyone is going to catch him. There is, however, a solid group of players tied for second at one-under. Tiger Woods finished his round a long time ago with that score, and he's since been joined by David Toms, Jim Furyk, Graeme McDowell and Ryo Ishikawa. That's four major winners and one of the best young golfers in the world.

It's been a rough day for the British contingent that's currently dominating the world golf rankings. Lee Westwood and Rory McIlroy are both three-over, while Luke Donald is four-over.

2012 U.S. Open Leaderboard: Tiger Woods Even, Bubba Watson And Phil Mickelson Struggling

The first round of the U.S. Open at the Olympic Club in San Francisco is underway and the feature group of the first round which includes Tiger Woods, Bubba Watson and Phil Mickelson is certainly an interesting one to watch.

Woods is doing a well enough job halfway through the first round, shooting even on the back-nine to start the tournament. Though Woods bogeyed on 14, he rebounded with a birdie on 17.

Watson and Mickelson on the other hand have struggled quite a bit to start the tournament. Mickelson started the tournament with three straight bogeys on the back nine. He got one of them back with a birdie on 13, but then bogeyed 14 and 16 to finish the back nine at four strokes over.

Watson has had even worse luck to open the tournament, bogeying two of the first three holes. He then went par from 12 through 14, but then bogeyed the next two holes. After gaining a shot back with a birdie on 17, he double bogeyed 18 to finish the back nine at five strokes over.

The afternoon wave has still yet to tee off, so half the field has yet to begin their round. As of now, Americans Kevin Na and Jason Bohn and South African Branden Grace are tied for the tournament lead at two under.

U.S. Open Golf 2012 Odds: Tiger Woods Remains The Favorite At Olympic

With a little more than 12 hours until the first group tees off at the 2012 U.S. Open, Tiger Woods remains the favorite to win his fourth national championship. The Lake Course at The Olympic Club will certainly provide an immense challenge for the world's top players. The favorites are consolidated into two main power groups. After Woods comes the Euro trio of Lee Westwood, Luke Donald, and Rory McIlroy. All three have held the No. 1 ranking in the OWGR over the past year but Westwood and Donald are still searching for their first major championship.

Masters champion, Bubba Watson, is in the middle of the pack at 50-1. Watson has only played twice since winning the season's first major and did not sound happy with the course setup on Tuesday during his media availability. Some more odds below:

Tiger Woods 13/2
Lee Westwood 11/1
Luke Donald 11/1
Rory McIlroy 14/1
Phil Mickelson 20/1
Dustin Johnson 25/1
Jason Dufner 25/1
Justin Rose 28/1
Matt Kuchar 28/1
Adam Scott 33/1
Jim Furyk 33/1
Rickie Fowler 33/1
Zach Johnson 33/1
Hunter Mahan 40/1
Sergio Garcia 40/1
Steve Stricker 40/1

2012 U.S. Open: Age Is Nothing For 14-Year Old Andy Zhang

Everything about Andy Zhang's young life has been rapid. When he starts the ninth grade in the fall, he can boast having played in the US Open this summer, something that none of his classmates, and no other person in the world, can claim.

Just 14, Zhang is believed to be the youngest player in the history of the golf tournament, according to a profile at Golf.com. Born in China, he has lived in Florida since 2008. Golf brought him here. Zhang played, at 10-years-old, in a World Junior championship at Torrey Pines. From there he was at a golf academy in Orlando.

The other golfers in the tournament have been impressed with him. Even Tiger Woods praised Zhang's accomplishments, noting that age doesn't really matter.

"He qualified. He earned a spot. I tried it when I was 15, but he earned a spot," Woods said. "That's the great thing about this game, it's not handed to you. You have to go out and put up the numbers and he did."

U.S. Open 2012 Tee Times And Groupings: Phil Mickelson Looks For 1st Open, Playing With Tiger Woods, Bubba Watson

The 2012 U.S. Open begins Thursday with plenty of storylines created by the USGA's groupings. They're well-known for grouping the most successful and popular players in the game, as well as players who have links in their background stories. The most notable group this year features Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, and Bubba Watson. All three enter the week with some questions about their game. Tiger is coming off a win, but there's still uncertainty about how his Sean Foley reworked swing will hold up in a major championship test. Woods entered the Masters coming off a win at Bay Hill, but finished his week at Augusta with his worst showing ever there, a T40.

Mickelson, meanwhile, enters looking to finally capture the "white whale" of his incredibly successful career. He has finished as a runner-up five times at the national championship, and an Open title is his top outstanding priority. Lefty has had a busy month, playing three out of four weeks in May before withdrawing from the Memorial. Bubba, on the other hand, has only played twice since winning the season's first major. He looked rusty in Columbus two weeks ago.

Mike Davis will have the Lake Course playing firm and fast, but fair. It's often considered the hardest test in the U.S. Open rota, which includes the most challenging setups in the world. The USGA is once again pushing tee times back on the west coast so that the tournament will be featured in primetime in the east. This has been a successful format, initiated at Torrey Pines in 2008 and used again at Pebble Beach in 2010. A complete list of tee times below:

Morning wave off No. 1 tee:

10:15 a.m.: Scott Langley, Steve Lebrun, Beau Hossler (a)

2012 U.S. Open Odds: Early Favorite Is Tiger Woods

The 2012 U.S. Open is upon us this week at the Olympic Club in San Francisco as players are taking practice rounds to get accustomed to the difficult course. The early odds have been released and the favorite is Tiger Woods at 6/1 followed by Lee Westwood and Rory McIlory who are both at 10/1.

Woods being the favorite is not a surprise since he won the Memorial two weeks ago, and with Woods being the favorite there is a sense of a déjà vu moment. Leading up to the Masters, Woods won Arnold Palmer's tournament just two weeks prior and also was named the favorite leading up to the Masters. However, Woods ended up in a tie for 40th place at the Masters.

If Woods is able to win the U.S. Open it will give him his fourth win at the event, and put him in a tie with Willie Anderson, Bobby Jones, Ben Hogan and Jack Nicklaus for the most wins all-time.

Here are the early odds for the 2012 U.S. Open:

Tiger Woods 6/1
Lee Westwood 10/1
Rory McIlroy 10/1
Luke Donald 12/1
Phil Mickelson 16/1
Dustin Johnson 20/1
Jason Dufner 28/1
Matt Kuchar 28/1
Bubba Watson 30/1
Adam Scott 33/1
Hunter Mahan 33/1
Justin Rose 33/1
Zach Johnson 33/1
Jim Furyk 40/1
Keegan Bradley 40/1
Louis Oosthuizen 40/1
Martin Kaymer 40/1
Nick Watney 40/1
Rickie Fowler 40/1
Steve Stricker 40/1

U.S. Open 2012: Tiger Woods To Play First Practice Round Monday

With the U.S. Open coming quickly, golfers will begin taking to the course at Olympic Club early this week to get in practice rounds. Among the pros to play on Monday include Tiger Woods who will be playing with his former teammate from Stanford Casey Martin as the Mercury News reports.

The marquee group for the beginning of U.S. Open practice rounds Monday features Tiger Woods, former Stanford teammate Casey Martin, current Stanford sophomore Cameron Wilson and Oregon State junior Nick Sherwood.

The foursome tees off at Olympic Club at 7 a.m. in the first group of the day. Master's champion Bubba Watson is slated to tee off in the second group 15 minutes later.

Casey has a very interesting story heading into the U.S. Open, as the current coach of Oregon's golf team defeated one of his own players to win the qualifier for the spot in the Open. It will be Casey's second appearance in the tournament, as his other appearance in a major came in 1998, which was also at Olympic Club.
