Marlins Vs. Nationals: Miami Slides Past Washington 2-1

Stay connected for news and updates

It wasn't exactly the best start to the second half of the season on Friday night for the Miami Marlins, as they stumbled against the Washington Nationals at home by a score of 5-1. But one night later, they got back on track with a 2-1 win over the Nats behind seven quality innings from starting pitcher Mark Buehrle, who grabbed his ninth win of the season.

On offense, the Marlins punched in a run in consecutive innings during the fourth and fifth -- two RBI singles from Carlos Lee and John Buck.

In the ninth, closer Steve Cishek preserved the win, recording the save for his second of the season.
