Marlins Vs. Pirates Recap: Miami Swept After 3-0 Loss

A rough weekend for the Miami Marlins mercifully came to an end Sunday with the Marlins suffering a sweep at the hands of the Pittsburgh Pirates with a 3-0 loss.

Anibal Sanchez pitched well, allowing just three runs on seven hits on no walks and eight strike outs, but two big hits by the Pirates ruined his outing.

Andrew McCutchen's RBI single in the first, and Pedro Alvarez's two-run home run was all the Pirates needed on the day as Jeff Karstens threw seven shut out innings to pace the Pirates to victory.

After loading the bases in the first, the Marlins would not threat the rest of the day. Miami was able to scatter just five hits on the afternoon.

Marlins Vs. Pirates: Hanley Ramirez Still Out Of Lineup With Hand Injury

Marlins Vs. Pirates: Miami Drops Fourth Straight, 5-1 To Pittsburgh

The losing skid continues for the Miami Marlins. Facing the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday night, the Marlins fell by a final score of 5-1, marking their fourth consecutive loss.

A solo home run from right fielder Justin Ruggiano in the second inning evened the score at one, but Marlins starting pitcher Carlos Zambrano imploded in the fourth and they couldn't recover. Off Zambrano, the Pirates would score three times -- all off bases-loaded walks and an error. He would be charged with five runs (four earned), three hits and six walks in the loss -- just his second at PNC Park. Zambrano has eight wins all-time in Pittsburgh.

The series finale is schedule for Sunday at 1:35 p.m. EST. Anibal Sanchez will take the hill for Miami.

Hanley Ramirez Injury Update: Miami Marlins Shortstop To Miss Several More Games

Miami Marlins short stop Hanley Ramirez injured his hand on July 8th after punching a fan in the dugout. As a result, the 28-year-old shortstop has not played since.

According to a story by The Palm Beach Post, Ramirez's hand still isn't better and he could miss several more of the Marlins next games:

"It's going to be a miracle if this kid feels good (Sunday),'' manager Ozzie Guillen said before Saturday's game.

Ramirez estimated that he had about 50 percent use of his hand Saturday.

"That's why I'm not playing,'' he said. "I don't think I can grab the ball or the bat. As soon as I can do those things, I will be there.''

Ramirez suffered an infection in his injured right knuckles after forgetting to take his medicine last week. But Marlins fans can rest assured that he's taking every measure to make sure he doesn't miss another dosage:

Marlins third baseman Hanley Ramirez said he is setting an alarm every day now to make sure he takes his medication for a cut on his right knuckles.

Marlins Vs. Pirates Preview: Struggling Carlos Zambrano Takes The Mound For Miami

The Miami Marlins have now lost three consecutive games after falling to the Pittsburgh Pirates 3-4 on Friday night at PNC Park. In the second of the three-game season, Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen will send pitcher Carlos Zambrano to the mound who has struggled thus far in the 2012 campaign.

The right-hander is 5-7 this season with a 4.22 ERA. In his last 10 starts, he's 3-5 with a sky-high ERA of 6.22.

Fortunately for Zambrano, he pitches well at PNC Park. He is 13-8 in his career there with a 3.95 ERA in 32 appearances. In his last 16 outings in Pittsburgh -- which includes 14 starts -- Zambrano has an 8-1 record and an ERA of 3.94.

First pitch on Saturday will be at 7:05 p.m. ET.

Marlins Vs. Pirates Recap: Miami Drops Series Opener In Pittsburgh

The Miami Marlins struggles continued on Friday night as they dropped the opener of their weekend series in Pittsburgh. Ricky Nolasco was solid on the mound but the offense could not break through against Kevin Correia and a stable of Pirates' relievers. A Neil Walker homer in the bottom of the fifth would prove to be the difference as Pittsburgh held on for a 4-3 win.

The Marlins offense got off to a hot start before going quiet against the Bucs' bullpen. Jose Reyes led off the game with a 400-foot homer to right. Emilio Bonifacio then single handedly manufactured a run against Correia by singling to left and then stealing both second and third. He came home on a Carlos Lee groundout to the to the right side which made it 2-0. The Fish would add a third run in the top of the fourth when Ricky Nolasco sacrificed back to the pitcher to score Omar Infante. That would be all for Miami's bats, however, as the Bucs chipped away with a couple solo homers off Nolasco to take the 4-3 win.

Carlos Zambrano will try to take the second game on Saturday. He'll be opposed by A.J. Burnett.
