NBA Summer League Day One Recap

The Orlando Magic defeated the Brooklyn Nets 92-88 behind 24 points and 12 rebounds by rookie Andrew Nicholson.

Nicholson was clearly the player of the day.

Fellow rookie Kyle O'Quinn added 16 points while Justin Harper, making the transition from power forward to small forward, had 15 points on six-of-nine shooting.

Al Thornton led the Nets with 18 points while rookie Tyshawn Taylor added 17.

Behind an excellent debut by Jared Sullinger, the Boston Celtics defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder 73-65.

Sullinger had 20 points on six-of-12 shooting and pulled down six rebounds. Fellow rookie Fab Melo didn't fare as well. In 14 minutes, Melo managed to score just two points.

Reggie Jackson led the Thunder with 19 points, Lazar Hayward had 18 points and nine rebounds and rookie Perry Jones III poured in 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds for the Thunder.

The Detroit Pistons held off the Utah Jazz for a 76-73 victory.

Rookie Kim English led all scorers 18 points on five-of-nine shooting. Second-year pro Brandon Knight had 17 points, six assists and five rebounds. Center Andre Drummond, the highest drafted rookie in Orlando this week, had eight points and five rebounds.

Deron Washington led the Jazz with 13 points on four-of-five shooting in just under nine minutes of play while Enes Kanter, the third pick of the 2011 draft, had three points and five rebounds.

In the final game of the day, the Indiana Pacers defeated the Philadelphia 76ers 69-63.

Indiana's inefficient back court of rookie Orlando Johnson (19 points on six-of-19 shooting) and Lance Stephenson (13 points on four-of-12 shooting) led the way for the Pacers. Miles Plumlee, Indiana's first round pick, had nine points and 10 rebounds.

Rookie Jacob Pullen scored 15 points off of the bench to lead the 76ers. Fellow rookie Moe Harkless had nine points and five rebounds.
