Rays Vs. Twins: Tampa Bay Wins In Extras, 7-3

Nine innings was not enough for the Tampa Bay Rays and Minnesota Twins to decide a winner, but the Rays would emerge victorious with a 7-3 win in 10 innings Sunday.

Tampa Bay jumped out to a 2-0 lead after their first two innings batting, but the Twins would answer with two in the bottom of the second when Justin Morneau hit a two run homer. The Twins took the lead in the bottom of the third, when Joe Mauer knocked in a run with a single.

The Rays tied the game in the top of the fifth when Sean Rodriguez doubled home a run. The two teams would remain tied until the top of the 10th when Tampa Bay exploded for four runs, highlighted by a two-run single by Ryan Roberts and a two-run double by Matt Joyce.

David Price went seven innings, allowing two earned runs on five hits while striking out only two.

Rays Vs. Twins: Tampa Bay Looking For Sixth Straight Win And A Sweep

The Tampa Bay Rays are six games behind the Yankees in the American League East. They are tied with Oakland in the AL Wildcard standings. If they keep playing like they are right now, winning their last five and posting an 8-2 record over their last 10 games, the Rays could cruise into the postseason.

On Sunday, they have the chance to win their six straight and sweep the Minnesota Twins. James Shields will try and help his team get the broom out, chasing his third straight victory. Shields has allowed just one run in his last two starts, lowering his season ERA from 4.52 to 4.08.

Scott Diamond takes the mound for Minnesota. He has a 10-5 record and a 2.91 ERA on the season. The Twins lefty has alternated wins and losses in his last six starts, which would put him on track for a loss on Sunday if only things really worked out that way.

The game starts at 2:10 p.m. Eastern and can be seen on the Sun Sports Network.

Rays Vs. Twins: Tampa Bay Holds On For 4-2 Win

The Tampa Bay Rays posted three runs during the top of the first inning -- a two-run homer from B.J. Upton and a solo shot from Matt Joyce. That early rally proved to be the catalyst as the Rays went on to top the Minnesota Twins at Target Field on Saturday night by a final score of 4-2.

Upton would homer again in the fifth, his 12th of the season.

Dave Price took the mound for the Rays and improved to 15-4 on the season, earning the win after striking out five batters and giving up just two runs over seven innings. Closer Fernando Rodney grabbed his 35th save of the season, as well.

The series finale is scheduled for Sunday at 2:10 p.m. EST. Tampa Bay also grabbed the first game of the series on Friday night

Rays Vs. Twins: Ace David Price Takes The Mound For Tampa Bay In Minnesota

The Tampa Bay Rays (60-52) and a suddenly resurgent offense take the field on Saturday to face the Minnesota Twins (49-63), with the added bonus of having staff ace David Price on the mound. The Rays have won their last two games by 7-1 and 12-6 scores, after scuffling at the plate for what seemed like months.

Price (14-4, 2.49 ERA) will be looking to join R.A. Dickey and Jered Weaver as baseball's only 15-game winners. Since a loss on June 13, the young lefty is 6-0 with a 1.82 ERA in nine starts. In four career starts against the Twins, Price is 1-2 with a 2.70 ERA.

Nick Blackburn (4-7, 7.42 ERA) will be on the hill for Minnesota. Since earning a victory over the Reds on June 22, Blackburn has gone 0-3 with a 7.36 ERA in six starts. The right-hander has a 8.04 ERA against Tampa Bay in losing his last three starts against the Rays.

Rays Vs. Twins Recap: Tampa Offense Breaks Out For 12-6 Win

The Tampa Bay Rays opened their series in Minnesota on Friday night with a 12-6 win over the Twins. The Rays pounced on Minnesota starter Cole De Vries by putting up eight runs in the first two innings. They would add another big four-run rally later in the game but the huge second inning provided a cushion for Jeremy Hellickson and the bullpen that would not be surrendered.

Matt Joyce did a lot of the damage in the first two innings, accounting for four of the eight runs. He ripped a two-run homer over the right field wall in the top of the first and then followed that up with a two-run double one inning later. The second inning featured six runs and six hits. The Rays drilled four hits and plated three runs before De Vries could even retire a batter. Jose Molina knocked in two with single to the gap in right center. The Rays catcher finished with three RBIs on the night, just behind Joyce, whose double finally chased De Vries.

The big lead allowed Hellickson to settle in and just try and throw strikes. He avoided the big inning, allowing just one run in the third and the fourth. The work brought his record to and even 7-7 for the season.

Tampa will try to clinch the series on Saturday with David Price going for his 15th win of the season.
