Dwight Howard Trade: 'Our Organization Didn't Handle It Too Well' Says Stan Van Gundy

Stay connected for news and updates

Stan Van Gundy was beaten down toward the end of his tenure in Orlando, then fired as the Magic's head coach at the end of the 2011-12 NBA season. Stunningly, Van Gundy doesn't think the Magic organization handled Howard's repeated requests for a trade all that well.

Van Gundy told 790 The Ticket in Miami that the Magic essentially got what they deserved in the Howard ordeal.

"We just got caught up in a bad situation and our organization didn’t handle it very well. Because of that I would say we probably deserve a lot of what happened as an organization and certainly not the other players. I thought those guys ... I felt badly for them, a group that worked hard and was very professional all year long and didn’t deserve everything that happened, but from our organization especially the people at the very top it just wasn’t handled very well, so you get what you deserve."

As for Van Gundy's next move, he told the station "I’d like to have a job. That’d be nice." But he demurred on the possibility of joining brother Jeff Van Gundy and Mike Breen on ESPN's primary commentary team.
