Emilio Bonifacio Headed To Disabled List For 3rd Time In 2012

After leaving the game on Tuesday in the second inning of the Miami Marlins road contest against the Arizona Diamondbacks, outfielder Emilio Bonifacio is headed back to the 15-day disabled list with a right knee sprain, according to the team's website.

This is the third time this season that Bonifacio has been placed on the DL and there is a possibility that this injury could bring an end to his 2012 campaign.

Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen feels that with the team's current place in the standings -- last in the NL East -- there is no reason for the 27-year-old to take the field until he's healthy:

"If we're not going anywhere, why are we going to take a chance for him to get hurt again, to go to Minor League rehab and do all kinds of stuff to come back?" Guillen said. "To me, it's up to him. But why risk something that shouldn't be risked?"

Emilio Bonifacio Injury Update: Outfielder Awaits MRI Results On Knee

Miami Marlins outfielder Emilio Bonifacio is injured once again. The 27-year-old left Tuesday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks in the second inning with pain in his knee, and will miss Wednesday's doubleheader according to The Palm Beach Post:

"It started bothering me when I made the first throw third (base) and then after the other one. I made two to third and one to the plate," he said.

"I've never felt that. I was concerned. I can't really step really hard."

Bonifacio started the year off leading the league in stolen bases, but suffered a thumb injury which landed him on the disabled list until mid-July. He re-injured the thumb again on Aug. 4 and there was fear that his season would be over, but Bonafacio was reinstated Aug. 25.

He is listed as day-to-day.
