2012 PGA Championship Purse: Rory McIlroy Takes Home Seven-Figures

As you can imagine, aside from being handed the Wanamaker trophy as one of the spoils of victory, McIlroy will also receive a seven-figure check as the top prize, an amount that nearly doubles what the rest of the competitors will receive.

Here is a break-down of the top-ten and the money that they will take home:

First place: Rory McIlroy, $1,445,000
Second place: David Lynn, $865,000
Tie for third: Carl Pettersson $384,500
Tie for third: Justin Rose $384,500
Tie for third: Keegan Bradley $384,500
Tie for third: Ian Poulter $384,500
Tie for seventh: Blake Adams $226,000
Tie for seventh: Jamie Donaldson $226,000
Tie for seventh: Peter Hanson $226,000

2012 PGA Championship Winner: Rory McIlroy Makes History With Win

Rory McIlroy made history during the 2012 PGA Championship, winning the tournament by a record eight strokes, eclipsing the old record of seven by Jack Nicklaus in 1980.

McIlroy entered the round with a three-stroke lead and needed just 24 putts to complete his 18 holes, a feat that went a long way toward winning.

The only person that came close to touching McIlroy was Ian Poulter, who birdies the first five holes of his fifth round, but he wouldn't come close during the final holes when McIlroy pulled away.

Tiger Woods finished the tourney well out of contention at two-under, 11 strokes off of the lead.

This is the second career major for McIlroy, who also won the 2011 U.S. Open.

2012 PGA Championship Leaderboard: Rory McIlroy Rolling To Title While Tiger Woods Finishes Well Off Lead

Few holes remain in the 2012 PGA Championship, and Rory McIlroy has separated himself from the field, as he leads by four strokes through 15 holes.

Ian Poulters hot round tailed off during his final few holes, as he had to settle for a round of three-under and is currently in the clubhouse in second place with a score of four-under.

Tiger Woods finished a disappointing weekend, as he entered his final hole well out of contention for the title. He is still without a major since 2008, as he finished his round at two-under for the tournament. He was in contention for the title after the first two rounds but was not able to finish the tournament out through his final two rounds.

2012 PGA Championship Leaderboard: Rory McIlroy Continues To Lead

Rory McIlroy had not taken his foot off of the gas at the 2012 PGA Championship, as he has continued to stay ahead of a hot field and has a score of 10-under through 10 holes. His final round has been a steady three-under-par, as he has avoided any major lapses out on the course Sunday.

Ian Poulter has been hot on McIlroy's trail all afternoon, however after a bogey on hole No. 12, his score dropped to seven-under for the tournament, but he is still six-under during his final round.

As for Tiger Woods, he has failed to catch the magic that his fellow competitors have on Sunday, as he is now at three-under through 12 holes and is just one-under for his round.

2012 PGA Championship Odds: Tiger Woods Favorite Entering Third Round

The third round has begun at the 2012 PGA Championship, with the field chasing three men tied atop the leaderboard: Tiger Woods, Vijay Singh and Carl Pettersson. PGA Championship 2012: Tiger Woods, Vijay Singh Share Lead At Kiawah

Tiger Woods moved into a share of the lead at the halfway point of the season's final major, matching Vijay Singh and Carl Pettersson at 4-under. The wind was up on Friday at Kiawah, a stark contrast from the relatively benign and gettable course on Thursday. Woods fired a 71 and was one of only a handful of players under par on the day, allowing him to slowly move up the board and into the lead as his colleagues tumbled all around him. He's become pretty reliant on a cut shot but he managed to work it through the wind, and then picked up ground on the greens where he was clutch with the putter -- a club he's been inconsistent with all year, particularly last week at Firestone. He even dropped a shot at the last to fall back into the three-way tie, but he has to love his chances over the weekend as he looks to finally break through after two closer calls at Olympic and Lytham.

Singh fired the low round of the day, a remarkable 69 that pushed him to 4-under. Singh is one of the older players on Tour, but, aside from Ben Hogan, he may be one of the hardest workers in the history of the game. Even as his best days pass him, he continues to grind it out on the range. He said he's been playing well and that came together on Friday. Singh's success is always defined by his putter, with his ball striking among the best on Tour. If he can continue to hold on with the anchored flatstick, he'll be in contention on Sunday.

PGA Championship Leaderboard: Tiger Woods Takes Lead

Tiger Woods' quest for his first major championship since 2008 appears to be on a positive path, as Woods took sole possession of first place during his round on Friday.

Through seven holes, Woods is two-under par, bringing his total score for the tournament to five-under par.

Woods has been incredibly efficient with his short game so far in the tournament, which is a big reason for his success. He has needed only 27 putts to get through the first 23 holes he played. If this continues, the field will have a tough time catching him later in the weekend.

Behind Woods is Vijay Singh, who is one stroke behind at four-under after completing his round earlier in the day on Friday. He has seen a bit of a resurgence during the summer, as he also had a top-10 finish at the British Open back in July.

PGA Championship Leaderboard Update: Vijay Singh Rising Up In Second Round

The second round of the PGA Championship at the Kiawah Island Resort in South Carolina is underway. While most of the leaders don't tee off til later in the afternoon, Vijay Singh, a resident of Ponta Vedra Beach, Fla. is moving up the leaderboard in the second round.

Singh came out ready to play on Friday, birdieing three holes on the front nine, including two of his first three holes. After finishing the front nine with a 33, he gave one of the strokes back with a bogey on No. 10 putting him at two-under for the second round through 12 holes. He is currently three-under for the tournament.

The current leader of the PGA Championship, Carl Pettersson from Sweden, is set to tee off at 2:00 p.m. Other notables that will tee off later today include Tiger Woods and Jupiter, Fla. resident Keegan Bradley, with a tee off scheduled for 1:40 p.m.

2012 PGA Championship: Carl Pettersson Still Tops Loaded Leaderboard

Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and defending PGA Champion Keegan Bradley all had excellent days out on the course, but there still hasn't been anyone able to match Sweden's Carl Pettersson. He went into the clubhouse with the lead at 6-under par, and he's still holding onto it late into the afternoon.

The best performing player still on the course is K.J. Choi, who is surging up the leaderboard towards Pettersson. He's 5-under par through 11 holes and has birdied his last three in a row. He's joined by McIlroy and Gary Woodland at 5-under. Bradley is 4-under, while Woods is 3-under.

Things are not off to a good start for top-ranked golfers Luke Donald and Lee Westwood, who look unlikely to shake their labels as the best golfers in the world without major titles. Donald is 1-over par and Westwood is 3-over.

PGA Championship 2012 Odds: Tiger Woods Opens On Top

PGA Championship Live 2012: TV Schedule, Streaming Information For Thursday

The 2012 PGA Championship starts Thursday on the Ocean Course on Kiawah Island, South Carolina. This is the final major tournament of the year, promising another chance for fans to see some exciting golf as the summer winds to a close.

Keegan Bradley won last year's PGA Tournament, and has the hot hand heading into this one. He held off Jim Furyk to win the WGC-Bridgestone last week. Last year, Bradley kept Jason Dufner at bay to win.

He has to beat Tiger Woods as well, who is favored once again heading into this tournament. The two will be seeing plenty of each other when play tees off on Thursday as they are grouped together, along with Martin Kaymer.

The first group tees off at 7:20 a.m. ET on Thursday. The TNT Network will carry the first round from 1-7 p.m. ET. Fans can also watch the action online via PGA.com.
