Danell Leyva, the bronze medalist in the men's gymnastics individual all-around competition, only qualified to compete in one individual event, the horizontal bar. However, he was unable to earn a medal in the event, finishing fifth out of the eight competitors.
Leyva, a native of Cuba who now lives in Miami, FL, finished just ahead of fellow American gymnast Jonathan Horton, but behind a pair of Chinese athletes.
Taking the gold medal in the event was Epke Zonderland of Netherlands, just ahead of Fabian Hambuchen of Germany who finished with the silver medal. China added another medal to their total with Kai Zou finishing with the bronze in the event.
The horizontal bar on Tuesday was the final event in men's gymnastics for the 2012 London Olympics in which China won the team gold.
