Miami Marlins starting pitcher Ricky Nolasco has been named Co-NL Player of the Week, rewarding him for his two excellent starts last week.
Nolasco picked up two wins last week, improving his record to 12-12 on the season. Nolasco pitched seven strong innings on Sept. 3 against the Brewers, limiting Milwaukee to just three runs (one earned) on nine hits, while striking out four, and walking none.
Nolasco was even better on Sunday, baffling the Washington Nationals en route to a complete-game shutout. Nolasco surrendered just four hits, while issuing one walk and striking out six.
Between the two starts, Nolasco pitched 16 innings, giving up just one earned run on 13 hits and one walk, while striking out 10.
Cincinnati Reds outfielder Jay Bruce shared the honor of Co-NL Player of the Week with Nolasco. Bruce hit .500 for the week, belting four home runs, driving in nine runs and scoring five times.
