NFL Week 2 Rookie Comparison: Ryan Tannehill Steps Up

The NFL saw five rookies start at quarterback in Week 1, an NFL record. Gone are the days when a rookie would have to serve as an understudy to an established veteran. Nowadays, teams draft quarterbacks and throw them straight into the fire. It's become a "sink or swim" league for young quarterbacks in the NFL.

Rookies Robert Griffin III of the Washington Redskins, Andrew Luck of the Indianapolis Colts, Brandon Weeden of the Cleveland Browns, and Russell Wilson of the Seattle Seahawks all started under center in their NFL debuts along with Ryan Tannehill of the Miami Dolphins.

The Phinsider blogger, Kevin Nogle, put together a fantastic post comparing the rookies through their first two games of the season. Griffin is clearly the standout of the rookie crop thus far, but the other four made considerable strides in their second weekend, including Tannehill.

The rookie from Texas A&M had a forgettable game against the Houston Texans in Week 1, but made noticeable improvements in Week 2. He now faces a tough task in going up against the New York Jets in Week 3, and the gap between these five rookies could be even closer after next weekend.
