Down by two touchdowns more than four minutes into the third quarter, the No. 4 Florida State Seminoles rode a dominant rushing attack and golden performance from senior quarterback E.J. Manuel to 35 second-half points and a 49-37 home victory over conference foe No. 10 Clemson.
Manuel threw for 380 yards on 27-of-35 passing and tossed two third-quarter touchdowns, the second a 29-yard strike to Rodney Smith which put the Seminoles up 35-31, a lead they would not relinquish.
As a team, Florida State ran for 287 yards, averaging 7.2 yards per carry. Chris Thompson and James Wilder Jr. ran for two scores apiece, and Manuel rushed for 102 yards on 11 carries. Seminoles senior back Lonnie Pryor also ran for a touchdown.
Tigers quarterback Tajh Boyd threw for 232 yards and three touchdowns on 19-of-35 passing. Both DeAndre Hopkins and Andre Ellington caught a touchdown and finished with more than 85 yards receiving, but sophomore speedster Sammy Watkins was held in check, finishing with just 61 total yards from scrimmage on five receptions and six rushes.
Watkins did throw a touchdown on a fake screen, a 52-yard score to Ellington which gave Clemson a 28-14 lead with 11:48 to go in the third quarter. But Florida State came storming back, scoring five touchdowns over the next 16 minutes.
Box Score Hero: Manuel, who accounted for 482 yards of total offense in leading the Seminoles to a huge conference win at home over a top-10 opponent. Manuel passed for 380 yards on 27-of-35 passing with two touchdowns and, most importantly, no interceptions. He also ran for 102 yards and a touchdown on 11 rushing attempts.
Rankings Ramifications: This was certainly an impressive win for Florida State, and after No. 2 LSU barely squeaked out a 12-10 win over Auburn, things could interesting in the top 5. Depending on how No. 3 Oregon fares against No. 22 Arizona, the Seminoles could move up a spot if LSU drops. As for Clemson, they're due for a fall but likely not too far after playing an exciting game against a top 5 team on the road.
But Did They Cover? Florida State was favored by a couple touchdowns, so they did not cover. The over/under ranged from 54.5 to 56, so obviously this game blew that out of the water.

The top-10 matchup between the Florida State Seminoles and Clemson Tigers has lived up to the hype so far, and the Seminoles have a 35-31 lead over the visiting Tigers.
Clemson opened the second half scoring with a wild, 52-yard trick play touchdown pass from Sammy Watkins to Andre Ellington. It's been captured in gif form for your entertainment:
Florida State answered with a Chris Thompson touchdown run less than 90 seconds later to make it 28-21, but Clemson's next drive ended with a booming 50-yard field goal from Chandler Catanzaro to stretch the lead the Tigers' lead to 10.
On the ensuing kickoff, however, Lamarcus Joyner returned the kick 90 yards to the Clemson 10 yard line, and two plays later E.J. Manuel threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to Rashad Greene to make it 31-28. Florida State wasn't done though, as Manuel connected with Rodney Smith for a 29-yard touchdown to take the lead, 35-31, after Clemson went three-and-out for the first time in the game.

The Alabama Crimson Tide weren't expected to have problems with the Florida Atlantic Owls, and there were none as the Tide coasted to a 40-7.
Alabama got off to a fast start when A.J. McCarron connected with Kenny Bell for an 86 yard touchdown pass on the third play of the game. McCarron added a second touchdown pass in the first quarter, a four yard toss to DeAndrew White. Three straight field goals followed in the second quarter, including a 52 yard boot from Cade Foster. McCarron added a third touchdown right before halftime, connecting with Christian Jones on a four yard pass to make it 30-0 at the break.
Blake Sims came on for McCarron in the third quarter, as the game was well in hand for the Tide. At that point, Alabama had taken their foot off the pedal, and Kenyan Drake added the final score to make it 40-0 in the fourth quarter. Drake finished with 36 yards rushing, behind Eddie Lacy's 106 yards and T.J. Yeldon's 62 yards.
Florida Atlantic made it 40-7 with 3:37 left in the game, but it was the lone bright spot in a miserable day for the Owl offense. They were held to 110 yards of total offense and only six first downs on the day.
Box Score Hero: McCarron had an outstanding day, going 15-25 for 228 yards and three touchdowns before being relieved in the second half.
Rankings Ramifications: There's no reason to believe that Alabama will be dislodged from their No. 1 ranking.
But Did They Cover? Alabama was favored by 48.5 points, so the Tide weren't able to cover.

It's been a wild, back and forth affair in Tallahassee so far, and the Clemson Tigers have a 21-14 lead over the Florida State Seminoles at halftime. Florida State was in position to tie the game right before halftime. However, poor clock management made the Seminoles settle for a field goal, which Dustin Hopkins missed wide left from 37 yards.
The Florida State defense, which had been giving up an average of one (1) point per game before this, has had to adjust to the speed of the Clemson skill players, sometimes with mixed results. Both teams have over 250 yards of total offense in the first half.
Tajh Boyd has 146 yards passing and two touchdowns in the first half, but Florida State has contained Clemson's running game, for the most part. Andre Ellington leads the Tigers with 38 yards on 9 carries and a touchdown.
E.J. Manuel has been efficient and accurate, going 15-20 for 181 yards, in addition to his 53 rushing yards. Lonnie Pryor and James Wilder Jr. each have a rushing touchdown to their credit.
Florida State will have the ball to start the second half.

What was billed by many as the game of the year in the ACC is living up to the billing early on, as the Florida St. Seminoles and Clemson Tigers are tied 7-7 after one quarter.
The Tigers got off to a brilliant start against the vaunted Florida State defense, with Tajh Boyd throwing a 60 yard bomb to Nuke Hopkins. For your viewing pleasure, here is gif evidence:
Not to be outmatched, Florida State quickly moved the ball down the field on the next drive, tying the game on a 13-yard run by Lonnie Pryor. E.J. Manuel had the key play on the drive, scrambling for a 28-yard gain to move Florida State into the red zone.
On Clemson's next drive, the Tigers moved inside Florida State's 20, but looked to be settling for a field goal on 4th and one. They faked it, and were given the first down. The play was reviewed, but ultimately upheld. Look here to decide for yourself whether Clemson made it or not:
Two plays later, Andre Ellington scored on a six yard run up the middle to put Clemson in the lead. Florida State then took 11 plays to drive the ball 57 yards down the field, but Dustin Hopkins missed a 44 yard field goal wide right.

Willie Snead hauled in a 19-yard Keith Wenning pass with 1:02 left to play, and the Ball State Cardinals took the lead from the South Florida Bulls to win at home by a score of 31-27.
Ball State led for much of the game, but the Bulls would rally in the third and fourth quarters, taking the lead with 4:12 left to play as B.J. Daniels hit Lindsey Lamar for a 29 yard score. Daniels would finish the day with 312 yards passing, three touchdowns, and two interceptions.
USF drove late, and was in a position to score before Ball State's Avery Bailey picked off USF's B.J. Daniels to seal the victory for the Cardinals.
Box Score Hero: Ball State receiver Willie Snead had a big game for the Cardinals, catching 11 passes for 135 yards and a score.
Rankings Ramifications: None, but that does not make the sudden emergence of MAC football against teams from BCS conferences any less interesting.
But Did They Cover? USF was favored by a TD in this one, so that spread was not covered.

It took overtime, but the Miami Hurricanes defeated the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, 42-36, after a late rally in Atlanta's Bobby Dodd Stadium. Led by senior tailback Mike James, Miami now improves to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the ACC.
The game was a back-and-forth affair, with the Hurricanes and Yellow Jackets trading leads up until the game's conclusion. After Miami established an early 19-0 lead, Georgia Tech would score 36 unanswered points, primarily on the efforts of Yellow Jackets quarterback Tevin Washington. Washington rushed for 47 yards and three touchdowns, two of which came in the second quarter.
The fourth quarter, though, was all Miami, as the Hurricanes rallied late to tie the game, scoring a touchdown on a 10-yard Mike James touchdown reception with 27 seconds left. That sent the game to overtime.
Georgia Tech received the ball first in overtime, but was stopped cold while going for it on 4th-and-1 from the 2-yard line. That gave possession to Miami who, on a 25-yard Mike James touchdown run, won the contest.
Box Score Hero: Who else but Mike James? James rushed for 89 yards and three scores and had three receptions for 24 yards and a score. James scored both the tying touchdown and the winning touchdown for Miami.
Rankings Ramifications: With this victory, it is conceivable that Miami could slip into the top 25, but not guaranteed.
But Did They Cover? Georgia Tech was a two-touchdown favorite heading into this contest, so that spread was most certainly not covered.
For More On This Game: For coverage of the Miami Hurricanes, visit The Seventh Floor and SB Nation Tampa Bay. For Yellow Jackets coverage, visit From the Rumble Seat and SB Nation Atlanta.
Next Week's Schedule: Miami's next opponent is North Carolina State in Coral Gables. The time of kickoff for that game is to be announced. Georgia Tech plays Middle Tennessee next week at 7:00 p.m. in Atlanta.

The Yellow Jackets continue to roll against the Hurricanes, scoring 36 unanswered points at one point, to head into the fourth quarter of their game at Bobby Dodd Stadium in Atlanta with a 36-22 lead.
Georgia Tech built onto their 22-19 halftime lead by scoring two touchdowns in the third. The first came off of a 35-yard Tony Zenon rush on the Yellow Jackets' first drive of the half. The second came one drive later, as quarterback Tevin Washington punched it in from 2 yards out.
Georgia Tech has 227 rushing yards so far on the game.
Miami scored on a 23-yard Jake Wieclaw field goal. The Hurricanes have moved the ball well on the day, amassing 393 yards, but have turned the ball over twice, contributing to the ongoing Miami woes.

An 85-yard kick return touchdown from Colby Walden with a little over a minute to play was the difference maker in the Jacksonville Dolphins' 21-17 road victory over the Dayton Flyers.
It looked like the Flyers (1-3) were going to hang on to win this one when QB Will Bardo found freshman WR Ross Smith for the 5-yard touchdown pass with a 1:39 left to play. Those dreams were dashed just 16 seconds later with one clutch kick return.
The Dolphins (3-1) cut into an early 10-0 deficit in the second quarter when Andre Addison brought an interception back 43 yards for a touchdown. QB Kade Bell helped Jacksonville take their first lead of the game after he hit tight end Andrew Robustelli for a 22-yard score on his only catch of the day.
That 4-point advantage would hold until late in the fourth when the aforementioned fireworks happened. The kick return allowed Jacksonville to be victorious despite being out-gained in the total yardage department 388 to 252.
Box Score Hero: No one had any particularly flashy stats but Flyers senior RB Robert Washington did average 15 yards per carry on just five totes.
Rankings Ramifications: These teams aren't anywhere close to being on the national radar but Jacksonville is officially 1-0 in Pioneer league play with the win.
For More On This Game: For more Jacksonville coverage, stay plugged into SB Nation Tampa Bay.
Next Week's Schedule: The Dolphins will take on Marist at home next Saturday as they try to continue their undefeated streak in Pioneer play while Dayton heads to Butler.

Georgia Tech dominated the second quarter, scoring three touchdowns in less than eight minutes of play, to take the lead over the Miami Hurricanes 22-19 at Bobby Dodd Stadium in Atlanta.
Led by quarterback Tevin Washington, Georgia Tech has amassed 141 yards of rushing offense and a trio of touchdowns through two quarters. Two of those touchdowns came via Washington himself, who has 40 rushing yards and 74 passing yards so far.
Miami's Stephen Morris and Phillip Dorsett have been instrumental to Miami's offense so far. Morris has passed for 187 yards, a touchdown and a pick on the half, with that touchdown and 153 of those yards being hauled in by Dorsett on six receptions.
Miami's other touchdown came off of a 1-yard Mike James rush to end the first quarter.
There was a bit of an odd moment in the first quarter, as Yellow Jackets returner Orwin Smith unintentionally gave up a safety. Returning a kickoff from Miami's Jake Wieclaw, Smith caught the kick in the end zone and, intending to earn a touchback, took a knee while placing his hand on the field in front of the end zone. Likely unbeknownst to Smith, his hand placement does result in a safety in that situation.
Georgia Tech will receive the ball at the beginning of the second half.

Miami Hurricanes freshman wide receiver Malcolm Lewis was carted off the field after suffering what is currently being called a dislocated ankle during Saturday afternoon's game against Georgia Tech.
The team is reporting that there was no compound fracture involved, and the ankle did not break through the skin.
Lewis had his ankle rolled up under a pile near the end of the first quarter. During the ruckus, Lewis' cleat seemed to twist in the opposite direction.
A team of trainers surrounded Lewis on the field to fix the separation and fit him with an air cast, preventing anyone from seeing the gruesome process. Miami head coach Al Golden got on his knees and embraced the pass-catcher on the ground before he was helped onto the cart.
Through the first three games of the season, Lewis had caught seven passes for 61 yards and one touchdown. He had one reception for 12 yards on the day before going down with the injury.

At the end of the first quarter, the Miami Hurricanes are in front of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, 19-0.
Miami opened the scoring less than 30 seconds into the game when Stephen Morris connected with Phillip Dorsett for a 65-yard touchdown pass.
Georgia Tech took the ball to midfield on the next drive before ultimately turning the ball over on downs. At that point, things began to slow down, and the teams exchanged punts before the Jake Wieclaw hit a 38-yard field goal. On the ensuing kickoff, however, Orwin Smith put his hand near the 1-yard line while kneeling in the end zone, which is a safety.
That sounds weird, so here's a gif of the safety from @bubbaprog. On the next drive, Miami took the ball right down the field, and Mike James scored on a 1-yard run as the quarter expired to make it 19-0.
Miami QB Stephen Morris is off to a nice start, going 9-13 for 149 yards and a touchdown. Duke Johnson has yet to really get going, and has 8 yards on only two carries. Georgia Tech has yet to attempt a pass, and has 39 yards rushing as a team. B.J. Bostic leads the way for the Yellow Jackets with 15 yards on two carries.

The Florida Gators defeated the Kentucky Wildcats in a 38-0 blowout on Saturday. Florida was efficient in all phases of the game, with sophomore quarterback Jeff Driskel leading the offense and the Gator defense suffocating Morgan Newton and the Wildcats.
Florida led by just a field goal after the first quarter, but a 21-point second period opened things up for the Gators. A 10-play touchdown drive capped with six consecutive runs for Mike Gillislee began a scoring spree for the Gators.
Jaylen Hawkins ran back a Newton interception for a 26-yard touchdown to give Florida a 17-0 lead. Later in the quarter, Driskel hooked up with Quinton Dunbar for a 19-yard touchdown pass before the half.
Most of the third quarter was quiet offensively, before Driskel ran for his first rushing score of the season. Jacoby Brissett scored the final touchdown for the Gators.
Box Score Hero: Driskel finished the game completing 18 of his 27 pass attempts for 204 yards and a touchdown.
Rankings Ramifications: With the impressive play of sophomore quarterback Jeff Driskel and the way Florida's defense undressed Kentucky in the second quarter, Florida's ranking could go up. The Gators were expected to blow the Wildcats out.
But Did They Cover? The Gators covered the spread in the first half when they took a 24-0 lead into the break. All the rest was just extra.
For More On This Game: Check out the Gators blog, Alligator Army. Kentucky coverage can be found at A Sea of Blue.
Next Week's Schedule: Gators are off next week, but face LSU on Oct. 6. Next up for the Wildcats is South Carolina, who will make their way to Lexington on Sept. 29.

Everything is going the Florida Gators' way through three quarters against the Kentucky Wildcats. The Gators took a 24-0 lead into halftime after a 21-point second quarter. Now, Florida leads 31-0.
After going scoreless through most of the third, Florida scored again when sophomore quarterback Jeff Driskel made some plays with his feet. Driskel appeared to score a touchdown on a scramble in the red zone, dragging Kentucky defenders as he extended his arm toward the goal line.
But the ball was knocked from his hands and recovered by Quinton Dunbar in the end zone, which was originally ruled a touchdown. The call was overturned after review, but Driskel ran it in on the following play (after an offsides penalty on Kentucky) for his first rushing touchdown of the season. The score capped a 15-play, 72-yard drive that took over nine minutes off the game clock.

The Florida Gators extended their lead to 24-0 against the Kentucky Wildcats in the second quarter of Saturday's action, while capitalizing on a few Kentucky interceptions and missed field goal attempts.
Florida held a narrow 3-0 lead through the first quarter, then a 10-play touchdown drive capped with six consecutive runs for Mike Gillislee began a scoring spree. More of Florida's fortune came from the unraveling of Kentucky quarterback Morgan Newton, who went into halftime having completed just 29 percent of his passes.
Perhaps the worst toss for Kentucky came when Newton threw the ball right into the hands of Jaylen Watkins, who returned the interception for a 26-yard touchdown.
Gators kicker Caleb Sturgis missed a 39-yard field goal attempt that would have given Florida a 20-0 lead. But Jeff Driskel and Quinton Dunbar connected on a 19-yard touchdown pass, and Florida ended the half with a third interception.
Also, tight end Jordan Reed survived this:
There is still no sign of Florida running back Trey Burton. Coach Will Muschamp said Burton has experienced back spasms and won't be able to play in this game.
Kentucky has had success running the football but, as the score indicates, it hasn't led to points for the Wildcats.

The 23.5-point favored Florida Gators haven't broken away from Kentucky yet, leading just 3-0 early in the game. Kentucky's defense was able to contain the Gator offense for much of the first quarter.
Florida's first two possessions resulted in punt attempts, before the Gators were able to score on a 26-yard field goal with 5:58 to go in the quarter. Kentucky's offense was more productive as the final two minutes of the period approached.
The Wildcats have been unable to convert on their opportunities. It's defense has kept them in the game so far. The Gators didn't have a successful third down attempt until their final drive of the quarter.
Kentucky kicker Craig McIntosh missed a 54-yard attempt that would have tied the game.
Also, Trey Burton is missing on the sideline for the Gators and there should be more on that later.

ESPN College GameDay commentator Lee Corso is famous for his eccentric way of picking the winner of the contest at the GameDay site. He usually wears the headgear of that team's mascot, but when the mascot doesn't have a head that can be easily removed and worn, sometimes things get a little weird. Many suspected that Corso would pick Florida State on Saturday, as he is a former Seminole football player. He didn't disappoint, donning the garb of Chief Osceola, Florida State's mascot, to pick the Noles. Face paint, spear and all.

ESPN's College GameDay is one of the highlight's of Saturday morning for college football fans. Desmond Howard, Kirk Herbstreit and Lee Corso move from campus to campus every weekend and students always come out to provide an energetic backdrop that has made the show so popular.
But the biggest hit on College GameDay -- aside from Corso donning mascot heads -- is the signs that students make. Every Saturday you're sure to spot something that will make you laugh.
This weekend, the crew has invaded Tallahassee for the big game between the No. 4 Florida State Seminoles and the No. 10 Clemson Tigers. This ACC matchup pits two undefeated teams in the Top 25 against one another and as usual, the Florida State students came out to show off their signs and school pride to the world.
But there was one sign that really stood out and was more interesting than the rest. What makes it so interesting? What makes it stand out? Well, it talks about UNC, goat's and gators, on a campus overrun by Seminoles and Tigers. Maybe someone took a wrong turn?

USF wide receiver Chris Dunkley is out for the Bulls' game Saturday against the Ball State Cardinals due to a knee injury according to Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times.
Dunkley has primarly been used off the bench for USF after transferring from the Florida Gators. recording only three receptions for 83 yards for the Bulls this year. Dunkley played a big part in USF's 32-31 comeback win over the Nevada Wolf Pack, scoring a 52-yard touchdown with under three minutes to go in the fourth quarter.
The Bulls were already without Sterling Griffin, who will miss the rest of the season due to a knee injury. This will put more of a burden on Andre Davis, who has emerged as B.J. Daniels' favorite target after Griffin's injury.
