Stay connected for news and updates

A ninth-inning rally fell short for the Marlins, as Miami fell to the New York Mets, 4-3, at Citi Field Saturday afternoon.

Knuckleballer R.A. Dickey (19-6), earned the win for New York, giving up six hits and two earned runs over eight innings of work, while Mark Buehrle (13-13) earned the Florida loss.

Buehrle gave up two New York home runs, the first to Mets outfielder Jason Bay on a two-run shot in the second inning, and the second to Scott Hairston to lead off the fourth. Buehrle gave up just five hits, but four earned runs. He was pulled for reliever Tom Koehler after the sixth.

Miami made a game of it in the top of the ninth after putting runners in scoring position with no outs, setting up a three-run John Buck home run, but the Marlins would score no more off of Mets reliever Jon Rauch.

The series continues Sunday at 1:10 ET.
