Mardy Fish Withdraws From U.S. Open For 'Health Reasons'

American Mardy Fish withdrew from the U.S. Open on Monday, citing 'health reasons'. The Boca Raton, Fla. native was scheduled to face top-seeded Roger Federer on Monday night in the round of 16. Fish has missed time earlier this year due to health problems.

Fish, 30, missed two months of the season earlier this year because of a heart problem. He was hospitalised after the Miami Masters in March when his heart rate increased to three times its normal resting rate.

Federer will face No. 6 Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic who defeated No. 11 Nicolas Almagro of Spain in their match today, 7-6 (7-4), 6-4, 6-1. This will be the 38th time that Federer has reached a Grand Slam quarterfinal in his career.
