Florida State defensive end Brandon Jenkins, 2011's ACC sack leader, will miss the remainder of the 2012 season with a foot injury, CBSSports.com's Bruce Feldman reports.
The 6'3, 260-pound senior left the first half of Saturday's season-opening 69-3 rout of Murray State and did not return.
Jenkins totaled 21.5 sacks over the past two seasons, twice earning All-ACC recognition. It's possible that Jenkins, who some experts saw as a potential first-rounder in the 2013 NFL Draft, could use a redshirt year and play for Florida State in 2013. Doing so would certainly help Jenkins restore NFL executives' confidence in his ability and health.
Feldman says FSU's defensive line unit should be able to cope with Jenkins' absence just fine. Bjoern Werner, who tallied four sacks in the Noles' season-opening romp, remains one of the country's best pass-rushing forces. Junior college transfer Tank Carradine took over after Jenkins left the game and picked up a sack of his own.
