U.S. Open Tennis Results 2012: Serena Williams Rolls; Andy Murray Cruises

Monday's matches went mostly as expected at the 2012 U.S. Open in Flushing, N.Y., with almost all the brightest stars heading on to the quarterfinals.

Roger Federer moved on without breaking a sweat. His opponent, No. 24 Mardy Fish, decided to bow out due to health issues.

Federer should undoubtedly benefit from the extra rest before his match on Wednesday against No. 6 Tomas Berdych. Berdych was terrific on Monday, taking Nicolas Almagro apart with ease in a 7-6 (7-4), 6-4, 6-1 victory.

Great Britain's Andy Murray wasn't wasting any time on the afternoon, beating No. 15 Milos Raonic in straight sets. Murray had complete command from the outset, taking the match 6-4, 6-4, 6-2.

On the women's side, Serena Williams continued to prove why she's the overwhelming favorite to claim her fourth U.S. Open title. In a thrashing of epic measure, Williams battered Andrea Hlavackova, 6-0, 6-0.

In perhaps the biggest upset of the event, Roberta Vinci came out on top against No. 2 Agnieszka Radwanska, 6-1, 6-4. She'll now oppose fellow Italian Sara Errani in the quarters.
