Bucs' Jeremy Trueblood inactive due to 'lack of versatility'

Now that Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive lineman Jeremy Trueblood is coming off the bench, it's been more difficult for the team to justify a spot for him on the active roster. He was inactive in Week 4, as head coach Greg Schiano explained to reporters that he decided to give Trueblood's spot to Jamon Meredith.

"We felt like Jamon gave us more position flexibility," Schiano said. "It was a tough one. I love Trueblood. I think he's everything we want: Hard-working, (pays) attention to detail, tough. But it's just when you're not the starter, when you're a backup and you dress seven offensive linemen, it's (about) position flexibility at that point."

Trueblood has started one game for the Bucs in 2012 and started 15 games for the team in 2011. Over the course of his 6+ year career with Tampa Bay, he has made 84 starts and appeared in a total of 94 games.

NFL injury report: Eric Wright, Lavonte David hurt in defeat

Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Eric Wright suffered a head injury in Sunday's loss to the Washington Redskins, and he was not able to return to the game. It is unknown at this point whether or not the injury will force Wright to miss future playing time.

Wright, who is in his sixth NFL season and first with the Buccaneers, has started all four games this season. He has 15 tackles and one interception, which he returned for a touchdown.

Additionally, Bucs linebacker Lavonte David suffered an apparent hand injury during the game. The rookie out of Nebraska has been important to Tampa Bay's defense in the early stages of the season -- he's started every game for the team and has a total of 33 tackles.

With the loss to the Redskins, the Bucs have now lost three consecutive games following their Week 1 win over the Panthers. They're off in Week 5 and will resume play against the Chiefs in Week 6.

Redskins vs. Buccaneers halftime score: Tampa Bay trails Washington, 21-6

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are struggling against the Washington Redskins in Sunday's game, down at halftime, 21-6. Rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III is outplaying Bucs quarterback Josh Freeman so far, with Griffin completing 77 percent of his passes for 126 yards.

Freeman is just 11-of-19 for 80 passing yards and an interception. Even with Griffin throwing the ball well, all of the Redskins' scores have come on rushing touchdowns and a fumble recovery. After the Bucs cracked the scoreboard first with a 50-yard field goal by Connor Barth, the Washington offense went to work.

Pierre Garcon recovered an RGIII fumble for a touchdown to score the Redskins' first points. Griffin ran for a five-yard touchdown score in the second quarter, and Alfred Morris took off on the left side for a 39-yard touchdown run .

Barth finished off the half with another field goal, this time from 57 yards out, to cut into the Redskins' lead.

Redskins Vs. Buccaneers inactives: Pierre Garcon will go for Washington

For the first time since Week 1, Washington Redskins wide receiver Pierre Garcon is back and in the starting lineup today against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Garcon had four receptions for 109 yards and a touchdown in the Redskins' Week 1 victory over the Saints, and looks to make an immediate fantasy impact today.

Other Washington inactives include wide receiver Aldrick Robinson and safety Brandon Meriweather. The two collided during pregame warmups, which led to both being deactivated for today's game in Tampa.

According to the Washington Post, Meriweather's left knee hit Robinson in the head while he was bending over to pick up a football. Both players initially collapsed on the field, then returned to the locker room.

Washington's other inactives include cornerback Cedric Griffin, guard Adam Gettis, linebacker Markus White, and quarterback Rex Grossman.

Running back Ryan Grant, who was added to the Redskins' roster this week, will also not play.

On the other sideline, the Buccaneers activated cornerback E.J. Biggers for the first time this season to try and stop the Redskins' passing attack.

Tampa Bay's other inactives are cornerbacks Myron Lewis and Anthony Gaitor, running back Michael Smith, safety Keith Tandy, linebacker Najee Goode, tackle Jeremy Trueblood and wide receiver Chris Owusu.
