The Florida International Golden Panthers beat the Akron Zips in overtime, 41-38, on Saturday night at FIU Stadium.
The Golden Panthers trailed late in the fourth quarter 38-35 after Marquelo Soel found the endzone for Akron. However, Jake Medlock led FIU down the field in the waning moments to setup a Jack Griffin 30-yard field goal with no time remaining.
In overtime, the Golden Panthers were able to hold Akron before Griffin sent everyone home with a 29-yard kick.
It was a wild game in Miami, with the lead changing hands four times. In the fourth quarter alone, the two teams combined for 34 points.
Medlock was the ultimate duel threat for FIU, throwing for 209 yards and a touchdown while rushing for an incredible 141 yards on 23 carries. He also scored once in the run game.
Dalton Williams made the skies dark with footballs for the Zips, throwing 54 times and finding his target in 26 of those times for 313 yards and a whopping five touchdowns.
