Orlando dealt J.J. Redick and two other players to the Bucks for a package headlined by second-year forward Tobias Harris. In another trade, Orlando sent Josh McRoberts to Charlotte for Hakim Warrick, whom the team will waive.

The Orlando Magic had a busy NBA trade deadline on Thursday, making two separate trades involving eight players.

In one deal, Orlando sent J.J. Redick, Ish Smith, and Gustavo Ayon to the Milwaukee Bucks for Tobias Harris, Doron Lamb, and Beno Udrih. In another, the Magic received Hakim Warrick and cash from the Charlotte Bobcats in exchange for Josh McRoberts. In a press release, the Magic indicated they "intend to waive Warrick."

Redick, a backup shooting guard, was Orlando's second-leading scorer in 2012-13, averaging 15.1 points per game, a career-best. He was due to become a free agent in July, and the long-term money that Orlando owes Arron Afflalo, its starting shooting guard, played a role in the decision to trade Redick.

Harris, 20, was the no. 19 overall draft choice in 2011. He averaged 15.3 points and 7.3 rebounds in his lone season at Tennessee. In his NBA career, he has averaged 4.9 points and 2.3 rebounds.

Lamb was part of Kentucky's national championship-winning squad in 2012. Milwaukee selected him with the no. 42 overall pick in the draft, and he has struggled in limited minutes at the NBA level. The Queens native shot 47.5 percent on three-pointers in college, but has connected on only 20 percent of his threes in the NBA.

The Heat freed a roster spot on Thursday by trading Pittman to Memphis.

The Miami Heat cleared a roster spot before Thursday's NBA trade deadline by sending backup center Dexter Pittman and their 2013 second-round draft pick to the Memphis Grizzlies for the draft rights to Ricky Sanchez.

Pittman, 23, was the 32nd overall pick in the 2010 NBA draft. He played just 41 games in his two-plus seasons with the Heat, including just four games in 2012-13. He spent 15 games with the Sioux Falls SkyForce of the NBA D-League in 2012-13, averaging 12.4 points and 8.8 rebounds.

Sanchez, the 35th overall pick in the 2005 draft, will likely never play in the NBA, but league rules stipulate that teams must receive something, even draft rights to players overseas, when they make a trade. The real prize in the trade isn't Sanchez, but rather the open roster spot that dealing Pittman created. "In order to gain roster flexibility we had to trade someone," Heat president Pat Riley said.

Miami could use that roster spot to sign a free agent before the playoffs begin.

The Heat have the East's best record and no significant trade assets, so they'll probably have a quiet trade deadline.

Several of the NBA's teams will be active in the trade market as Thursday's trade deadline, set for 3 p.m. Eastern, approaches, but the Miami Heat probably will not be one such team. Miami leads the New York Knicks by four games--a comfortable margin--for the East's best record, and with 15 players under contract, the Heat don't have any roster spots available.

Miami signed reserve center Chris Andersen for the remainder of the season on Feb. 8, and the veteran has helped addressed its need for depth in the middle. In 10 appearances, the 34-year-old is averaging 3.1 points and 3.5 rebounds in 10.8 minutes. Miami ranks No. 19 in the league in rebound percentage, according to NBA.com/stats, but that low rating hasn't stopped the Heat from dominating for most of the season.

ESPN's Chris Broussard reported on Feb. 12 that Miami, among other teams, "could have interest" in San Antonio Spurs big man DeJuan Blair, who has fallen out of coach Gregg Popovich's rotation. The signing of Andersen, as well as the presence of Dexter Pittman, likely means Miami will not join the Blair sweepstakes should the Spurs deal the former second-round draft pick before Thursday's deadline.

The Orlando Magic are set to play their fourth game in five nights Friday when they battle the New Orleans Hornets.

Though the Hornets have won five of the last eight meetings between the teams, including each of the last three, the club is hardly the same, as it's traded away two All-Stars in Chris Paul and David West, as well as productive youngsters Darren Collison and Marcus Thornton. Given the state of the roster, it's little wonder New Orleans has lost nine straight games to dip to 3-15.

Orlando has lost three of its last five and hasn't won consecutive games since the San Antonio Spurs snapped its five-game winning streak on Jan. 18.

Here's everything you need to know about Friday's matchup between the Magic and Hornets:

Orlando heads to the Big Easy to take on Jarrett Jack and the Hornets on Friday night.

Fresh off their second humiliating loss to the Boston Celtics in three days, the Orlando Magic head to the Big Easy to take on the New Orleans Hornets on Friday. The game is Orlando's fourth in five nights, but fortunately for it, the Hornets, at 3-15, won't present nearly as difficult a challenge as Boston did.

Orlando squandered a 27-point lead, at home, on national television, to a Celtics squad missing three starters on Thursday night. That defeat came just two days after the Celtics limited the Magic to 56 points in a 31-point rout.

New Orleans, meanwhile, is on a nine-game losing skid. It's in full rebuild mode, having traded David West and Chris Paul during the offseason. Shooting guard Eric Gordon, the prize pickup in the Paul trade with the Los Angeles Clippers, has played just two games with his new club due to soreness in his knee, leaving the scoring duties to combo guard Jarrett Jack, who leads the team with 16.8 points per game.

Since the 2007/08 season, when Stan Van Gundy took over as Magic head coach, the Hornets have won five of their eight meetings with Orlando, including eacb of the last three.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers introduced Greg Schiano as their newest head coach during a press conference Friday afternoon, and the former Rutgers Scarlet Knights coach explained his football philosophy and his plans to manage the organization.

The Bucs' common message in 2012 will be TBA, which stands for trust, belief, and accountability. "You gotta believe in that," Schiano said, "or this isn't the place [for you]." Schiano, who got his coaching start as a defensive assistant, also said he would hire a defensive coordinator rather than try to fulfill that role himself.

On the field, Schiano has this vision for his Buccaneers: "great defense with a physical offensive football team that will take shots down the field." Indeed, it does not seem Schiano is a conservative play-caller.

Schiano takes over a Bucs team that lost its final 10 games of the 2011 season, which resulted in the firing of Raheem Morris, who went 17-31 in his three seasons at Tampa Bay's helm.

The 2012 Senior Bowl is set for Saturday, Jan. 28 at 3 PM, affording an opportunity to look back on the game's history and to preview the 2012 matchup.

Conceived in 1950, the Senior Bowl gives the nation's top seniors the chance to boost their NFL Draft stock, as well as the opportunity to work with NFL coaching staffs. In 2012, the Washington Redskins will coach the South team, while the Minnesota Vikings coach the North.

The South owns an all-time record of 29-26-3 against the North and has won three of the last five meetings. In 2011, Seminoles quarterback Christian Ponder threw for 132 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions en route to earning MVP honors and leading the South to a 24-10 victory. He went on to become the No. 12 overall selection in the 2011 NFL Draft.
